bookshelf speaker for PC

I am looking for bookshelves with a small footprint, cheap, and a low extension ...

looking at Yamaha NS-333; Polk Audio Monitor 30, Monitor 40, Rti4
(the Primus series are not on clearout sale here)
leaning towards the the Polk Monitors ... why? looks.
never heard them all.

I attached the chart I made of these speakers ...

monitor 40 is leading because of the extension, dual driver
monitor 30 is 2nd place because of its tiny size (good thing)
rti4 is racing just because

will the 6hz difference between the 40 and 30 be audible?
comments? (especially from Chuck and Todd)

Take one of your ho-gillion subwoofers and use it with your PC.

Hi Mike,

What about porting? Will you need to back the speakers against a wall? Will that factor in?

I don't recall how the speakers you listed are ported and I am to lazy to look right now...

all except the rti is rear ported ...
both speakers will be close to a wall (but can be angled a bit to point at the corner which is 18" away) about 3" away at the closest edge of the speaker. My pc table and monitor is at a room corner.

sheep, I will use one of my subs but I forgot to state the reason why I want to change speakers ...

right now, I am using an altec lansing ACS45.1 speaker system [from the 90's which just refuses to die]...
3" full range driver + 6.5" sub (42hz extension - as per specs - f not specified)

I changed that setup with the JBL satellites which sport dual 3" drivers, 1/2" tweeter and a 10" sub. I heard a lot of new detail and things I didn't from the altec setup (counter strike)
But the problem was the subwoofer was at the left side of the table ... I could hear the boom coming from behind me left side which could have been caused by:
1) the bass was being reflected OFF the PC table
2) crossover of 90hz was too high
3) that JBL sub is simply crap

by buying a new speaker with lower extension (i might even be able to beat the altec system with just the bookshelves), I figure I can solve the crossover problem. I can also solve the crappy JBL sub problem if I use one of my hogillion subs :)

for the first problem I'm considering DIYing two Rockford 10" sub drivers I have under the table right in front of me ... but this is gonna have to wait til I buy the new speaks and after my honeymoon.

Why don't you just buy the Primus 150's off the web?

Go with the RTi4's. They are an amazing bookshelf speaker.

buckeye, would the rti be hard to power? (i was actually afraid of the rti series because of the ohm thing ...)

I might only get an old kenwood integrated (circa 90's - unknown wattage) or 40wpc integrated to run this thing

the polk website actually mentions that the monitor series was "easy" to power and skips describing the rti's sensitivity.

what happens when you use a bi/di pole speaker up front?

whats the orientation of the drivers on the bi/di pole "faces"?
T-TM for the left TM-T for the right
or
T-TM for the left T-TM also for the right?

The bookshelf speakers are easier to power. It's only the RTi towers that need mega watts.

WTH is a "hogillion" subwoofer? Is that canadian for something

I resent your saying that the Primus are ugly , but being that it's an opinion, and that individuals have different tastes.....

Have you thought obout the Insignia Coax's with the crossover and box mod? They are supposed to be hard to beat for thier size and cost and the small footprint of a coax would also be suitable for you application. Plus IMHO they look nice as well.

Product Features
Bass-reflex design provides a deep, extended response
1" silk dome tweeter for crisp and full audio
Binding post capability allows improved connectivity
High-gloss front panel with modern curved cabinet
Frequency response: 50Hz - 20kHz
Sensitivity: 90dB
Impedance: 8 ohms

Here's the mod kit...http://www.gr-research.com/insignia.htm

You miss quoted me, I said "Ho-gillion subwooferS" As in, many subwoofers.

Something to note, those Insignia speakers are not Mag. Shielded.

I assumed Ho-gillion was a name for something, so I didn't use it in plural when talking about a single sub. Since I had no idea what the word meant, consequently I had no idea of it's use in context. ;)

If he wants good sound, which I assume he does, I'm sure they won't be placed too close to the monitor, even nearfield each speaker would ideally be more than 24'' away from the monitor anyways...

I dunno, I think my C-1s look better...

 IMHO with the light wood and the silver plastic the C-1s look cheap, but a dark woodgrain would really set them off and my opinion would change. Not that I have anything against them the Energy C-1s are nice.

Depends on the color of your room...those would look terrible in my black/red theme room.
