At my $500, deal or no deal Focal blew PSB away (705 chorus vs. whatever was price matched and $200 beyond just for effect. My local dealer could see I could tell the difference and kept plugging in what he had at high $ - he really sold me personally on Focal) No contest - thank you good night. But those are my ears (loving rum and Bello hot sauce).

For me - dealer demo's depend on the dealer. You're in the carribean, been many places there so...if he's blasting the junkaroo for the tourists 10 hrs/day, pass. If he's a legit store then get the warrenty and see. The harsh sea conditions will determine your speaker's life vs. normal play.

My suggestion would be list to paradigm studio 20's (v3 close outs) vs. focal monitors whatever you can best afford. Decide which you like as they seem to be the consencious picks. My paradigm audition was lack luster to say the least. Also - FYI - you better have a sub. Otherwise- $500 ain't gunna cut it. I'm also looking at the same reciever (Yammie vr659- the Focal 800v's sound great thru it).

Good luck
well bello hot sauce does wonders and watch out for tto much rum that is unless your into the aged stuff 15+ in those oak barrells now thats nice. The dealor in PR is a legit dealor for Focal PSB and Para, but i'm not flying over there right now for a listen i'd rather put that extra 200 buck toward equipment. I'll look seriously into the Focal 705v is that the model you mean or where you refering to the 705s line. Yes i'm looking into a sub for sure but that will sometime after june i'll have 2 live without till then. the 800v seem to be nearly identical to the 700v well except to the visual looks and the tweeter construction.

You dont get the hint of my post. You have gotten the information. If you want someone to tell you what to buy, then we can do that... but at this point we have 5 pages of information on one topic, and the truth is that the best answer in my opinion at this point is that you havent gone and listen to the speakers, and made the choice yourself.

I help people all the time, and sometimes I have to give the best and honest answer. Though you may not like it, I feel it is the best advice anyone could tell you.

GO AND LISTEN TO THE SPEAKERS...

If you have additional issues, do some more google... Read Reviews, etc...

You want answers and your getting opinions. Well opinions are like hamburgers. BTW; Wendys makes the best chicken sandwitch; thats my favorite.

Now its valid to get opinions, and things to look out for.. but at some point you got to relize that its time for you to go out on your own and do the work... LISTEN, and ENJOY the buying experiance.

Thank you Emorphien for your support... We dont mean to be rude or unwilling to help. Infact its the opposite. At this time the best thing we can do to help you is to send you on your way, full of knowledge and ready to shop and listen.

Thanks and Good Luck

Nobody hears what you hear. Hearing is entirely subjective and the saying of "one man's meat is another man's poison" holds true for speakers as much as it does for .... erm never mind..don;t want to start a sexist war in here.. ;)

Listen to the speakers for yourself and make a self imformed decision . That way you'll never go wrong.

Oh when auditioning speakers, bring along your own materiial be it CD, DVD, even vinyl if you have it and listen to that instead of some unknown material. Also bring a pad of paper with you and take notes about the likes and disliek sof what your hearing. This will all help you in choosing a speaker thats right for you.

Really that an I* honestly never thought about that??? duh evidently the purpose of MY post is irrelevant. Contray to popular belief by some of the latter posts as opposed to the earlier cooperative ones might I also add informative ones. All i was eager to find out was subjective comparisons thats all. You ask someones opinion because either your value their viewpoint or you just wanna blow air up their posturior. I have auditioned speakers in the past. They few lines available locally dont cut it. So rather than buying a name i was ascertaining some subjective replies from inform person. I know polk klipsch bose and Def-tech. So comparing. the sound of others price and performance to those would be an assistance to moi in the absence of the luxury of a demo. That might be the audiophile proceedure hence may i be excused. So hey i'm unorthodox merci. Dont feel obliged to reply i fully understand and none is required if you do feel iinclined.

I have heard the new monitor v5, but I was listening to the largest Monitor 11, my dealer didn't have the new Studio v4 line in yet...
I really liked the Monitor 11, and they were relatively inexpensive and I think you get alot of bang for your buck there.. but next to the v3 studio 100's and the B&W's they were lacking.

I personally have a budget of 5k and will be getting the new studio 100's, cc-690, and ADP-590's when I can get this all going...
But also I have to fill a huge room - 8100 cu.ft

I just bought a new house, and I have put off putting together my new home theater for a long time, and I think its worth the wait... ie new technologies..
now couple all the $$ into speakers, with a new reciever - and a sub to fill that room...
I personally have been reading, reading, and more reading (research) for the last 4-5 months and doing as much listening to many different speakers... to find what I liked.

So when they say go listen That is really the key.. you have to go out and sample stuff.. if you are dedicated to what you want to end up with, take the time and waste away a day or 10 running around to find it... :) that is part of the fun..... good luck... Warp

$5,000 is ALLOT of money... if the speaker places you goto dont give you fair auditions then they dont deserve your money.

My favorite store, has rooms that are absent of speakers (except for a few). You ask to listen to a pair, and they bring them in and hook them up.

This is important to me, because speakers in a room are a great way to absorb reverberation and change the sound. Its also important because they place the speakers in fair speaker configurations. You really get to test them in a real world setting. Then after you pick out your speakers, you can take them home, hook them up, and test them in your home for a week...

They relize the investment people are making, and in turn they make allot of money. I am happy to give my money to them... even though they have tried to sell me expensive speaker wire... (that stopped however, when they learned of my feelings on the subject, and how I dont think its ethical to sell such crap.)

I agree with you on this GreenJelly, that is why Im still looking around for different speakers in my price range, and I haven't pulled the trigger yet..

Im in absolutely no hurry to dump out money that I may be unhappy with in the end... so that is why I have taken so long to do my homework, and read, and learn... Its not about me saying in a forum I spent x amount of dollars, its about what I learned, and then what am I happy with in the end...

still looking for advice as to what else is in my price range...
$5K for 5 speakers...
Unfortunately I live in milwaukee, and there are not alot of place to audition good products, don't get me wrong, there are some, but I think I might have to spend a couple of days in Chicago, and see what there is down there...
I can take all the advice you can dish out, but in the end, I have to first find the dealers and then go do the listening !!!

Thiel 1.5's (or the newest 1.X) with a rear .5's or the newest (0.X) though this is a personal favorite, it is a very specific type of sound.

The one I own is B&W. 603's all around and a 600 front and a 601 sub. All used...

Without the amp, it would have been around $2K used.

601 is low
602 is 400
602.5 is 500
603's new go for around 1.2K
604's are 1.8K I think

I would push for the 604's for the fronts, the 600 center channel, an 602.5 or 602 as rears.

I would buy a 7 series Marantz. Though Denon and Yamaha makes good power.

If you have more money then that I would see about the 700 series, and see what happened.
