I would like to ask if anyone knows if there is any plans for a Blue-Ray play/recorder, Disc or built in hard drive.

Thank You,

John

Blu-ray recorders for PCs are already available.

Check www.newegg.com for details and pricing of a couple.

Stand alone BDRs I am unaware of at this time.

Panasonic--the DMP-BD30 is profile 1.1 and bitstreams high resolution audio to your receiver (no pre/pro's decode DTS-MA or Dolby TrueHD AFAIK).

If you get a Sony, get the PS3 only since it's profile 1.1 (and like profile 2.0) compliant.

Unless you need DTS-MA/HD or analog audio out support I would suggest you go with the PS3.

Thanks for the link..
Uhg, some of those players are downright ugly...:p NO CLASS at all.
Specially the Mitsubishi and the Philips (YUCK). (clearly trying to look to Sci-Fi, and I am even a sci-fi fan but not in the equipment)
Hopefully they perform better than they look.
I really can't see those players next to my Pioneer Elite, or any standard (not space-aged) piece of equipment.

But that Samsung does intrigue me, and the AMEX even more so.;)
Although quite big, the Zenith also looks classy.:)

I found this website that has Blue-Ray Recorders (Promos).

Those photos are from something like 3 years ago. When silver was far more popular than it is now, and I believe almost every one of them was a prototype. The recorders themselves have been out in Japan, where Blu-ray has been around for several more years than here in the states, yet the currently standardized Blu-ray is a good deal different than the original Japanese format that Sony put out.

The states haven't seen a stand alone Blu-ray recorder yet, but we likely will this year I expect.

Not if Hollywood has anything to do with it. The whole point of these ridiculous HDCP digital keys is to prevent exactly what you want. Without clarifying and enforcing the fair use laws you can bet the unsatisfactory people inhabiting Hollywood will prevent it.

These discs are curently used for computer based Blue-Ray recorders. I think the only curent recorders are in Japan.
