Blu-Ray player help

Hi all! I recently bought a 65” 900F tv, then I went on to getting 3 Chane A2.4 speakers and SVS PB12-NSD...now the result is I have $180 in Best Buy rewards I want to spend. I know I want to get something to play Blu-Rays. Now do I get the X700 or an Xbox One S?

I own a PS2, Wii and had a PS4. All of them I played for awhile, but lost interest so I’m questioning if the Xbox makes sense or not. I’m concerned about getting good picture and audio quality. Thoughts?

If you're going to play games then the game console makes sense as long as it provides all the disc playing features (and/or apps) you're after. I used a PS3 for years but haven't played games in a long while so took it out of the system for a dedicated universal disc player last year. Seems the Sony and Panasonic players tend to provide good value and performance.

If you are not interested in gaming as mentioned above. Then the Sony would be my choice

I’d maybe use the Xbox once and awhile, but my main goal is getting the best picture and audio quality within the ~$230 range. If that ends up being the Xbox I’d be down with it as I could game, but if not I won’t miss the gaming aspect. Thoughts?

I question if my Android TV even supports Dolby Vision tho. Maybe the Xbox may be worth it if that’s the case.

Yes, the 900fs are Dolby vision compatible. That’s why I bought mine! ;) Along with the x700

I would get both. Not sure in which order. :)
Nice one, Snake! ;)

@UWbadger91 : Hope all is going well with your system! I think the question should be...
Do you want an XBox?
The Sony UBP-X700, iirc, does everything but play DVD-A content, and is compatible with the full range of video styles just short of the IMAX Enhanced.
That said, the Xbox option might not give you the best marriage with your TV regarding HDR compatability.

Having trouble confirming myself in just a short quick perusal, but this has some good tidbits in it.

Also, the CNet Review for the XBox had some comments about having to force it to play HDR resolutions.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

What do you use for BR? I’m leaning towards the x700.

Ya, I have the x700... chose Dolby vision over the x-800 and its dvd-a compatability.

Awesome! There was a firmware update to the Xbox one which allows it to play Dolby Vision for Netflix, but not Blu-Ray. People seem to be saying that’s coming, but it would be speculation. I have a slight itch to game, but feel the X700 makes the most sense.

I might b a little jaded from the PS3 days, when it was the best Blu-ray player... so cool to have that tech. And then I had to replace it a few years down the line. ;) Ever since, I prefer keeping my gaming platforms for gaming, and thus I bought the UBP-X700... plus I also want to explore the world of HiRes audio. So for me, it makes sense.
One other thought... they used to have a Blu-ray remote for the PS3... I don’t know that they ever released it for the PS4... stopped looking for it. ;) But I will say my experience using the controller as remote was a lame-ass experience.
Again though, just depends on what you want! For me, dedicated Blu-ray. Dedicated gaming platform. :)

Ya I had that setup. The controller was horrible for a remote on the ps3. That controller was never charged so I had to use the usb short cord and then the ps3 always needed an update before I could play a disc. LOL :)

Oh to hell with that little dinky ass cord! I went out and bought their 6' long one... nylon wrapped... still have it plugged in now 'cos thats the only way my old ps3 controller will work. Only keep the 3 around for the occasional RockBand jag. Oh and a game controller is for controlling games only! I'll f'n pay another 30-40 for a f'n little piece of plastic WITHOUT the stupid little AAAs it wants to be fed.

OK. I'm better now.

Your 2200s up and running? You’ll have to let me know if giving the center it’s own amp is a genius move or not. I know I was thinking it could be. :)

Ha!
1 Bmr in house... the other two I should be getting tomorrow. Mini Phils on the 2nd, and my AA's just shipped today.
Here's my philosophy... FWIW
If you want to buy matching speakers, so they sound the same, you should treat them the same (for the most important ones). There are speakers I didn't look at because the fronts and centers and surrounds were all different impedance and different watt-programs. It just doesn't make sense to me. (At least not yet.)
With Dennis, everything is rated 6ohms, and everything that's most important in my rig has the same tweeter. So ya, I'm gonna juice it all exactly the same for 5-channel audio. If I'm wrong, then I can power a system in another room when I learn how to build speakers later in 2019! :p

But as soon as I get stuff in and set, you'll be seeing it! Danzilla wants speaker-porn, too! And I know everyone wants to see the quint-stack of mono-blocks. I just wish I could speed up time and get those Phil3s up in here!

Ya I am curious to purchase some amps and haven’t decided on speakers yet for my small theater room. :)

I was almost sold on the monoliths, but heard the XLRs on the amps aren't truly balanced. So then it came down to Emotiva and Outlaw as the main home audio amps. But Crown XLS series and the QSC cinema series kept popping up.
If I had ordered Tekton? Crown audio all the way. Or QSC. But even though Tektons are supposed to be super efficient, they are also designed to handle some juice.
EverttT is running his Song3As on a QSC cinema amp.
Had I ordered Monitor Audio, I was looking at the XPA-DR3 from Emotiva to handle the front three Silver 500 and matching Center.
Philharmonic was a curve ball to me. But the Outlaws were the right price at the right time. And they are supposed to be good. ;)
I think its a good problem to have, these choices that lie in front of us. I'll take it while I can.
