Best sub-woofer under $325?

I'm looking for a new sub-woofer, used primarily for music, for under $325. I was going to get the NX-BAS-500, but as soon as I set aside enough cash to justify purchasing it, all the vendors ran out of stock :(. Is there anything of as good or superiror quality for music under $325? I'd like to go lower down to ~$260(what I was going to pay for the NXG) if the difference margin isn't too large, but I could also maybe go up 10 or 20 if the difference was big.

I can't help you on that one, but I'm sure someone can guide your in the right direction. Cheapest sub I ever owned was around 2.5k. Best sub for music I would take this one http://vandersteen.com/categories/subwoofers. Good subs are not low priced. Remember you get what you pay
for. Cabinet-driver-amp-shipping from China-by the time you purchase that sub there are 5-6 people making a profit. I'd say you spend a little more money and get what you can enjoy.

I heard the NXG and was frankly blown away. I can't be bothered to spend more than $325 on my sub. It's for a fairly small room and I usually can't tell too much of a difference between $300 and $2000 speakers. My ears can tell a large differnece between $100 and $300, but after that I just cant justify it! I'm in college now and simply can't afford to spend that much on a sub. I wish I could :p

The Dayton 1200 is good for music sub $120 shipped. I have it in my music setup. Also depending on your room size. This one will go a bit deeper: http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-sub-1500-15-150-watt-powered-subwoofer--300-634
If you can go a bit higher I highly recommend the $475 outlet sale SVS SB1000. I love my PB1000 and customer service is FANTASTIC. Call them they may even give more of a discount. Hey you never know: http://www.svsound.com/specials/outlet-specials/sb-1000-outlet-ba
Also if you don't mind used this sub VTF-2 MK3 has garnered great reviews. Member here is selling his in great condition with a big discount and in your price range. If I were looking i'd jump on it: http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/threads/for-sale-hsu-surround-speakers-set-subwoofer.92754/page-2#post-1061856

I forgot about that Dayton sub, I bought one for my son and it is a decent sub for the money. You can always check the used market, there are some great deals out there. I know, I sold off some equipment in like new condition for a fraction of the original cost.

As some of the other guys have said, buying used can net you a little more for your money. However, there are always question marks that come with buying used. Making sure you can pay with a credit card, with something like paypal, or through ebay so you have some protection is a must unless you can bear to take the however many hundred or thousand dollar hit should it fail. As they say, the bigger the risk the bigger the reward, and cash can sometimes get you the most for the least but with no safety net.

As far as the one's I linked go, I've never heard any of them specifically, but the BIC was tested by data-bass, the CSX's big brother was tested by data-bass, and I've owned a big brother to the Hsu. Based on the numbers, I'd probably go with the Hsu STF-2. Unless I'm forgetting or misreading something (which is always possible) it put up the best CEA numbers out of the three. The short explanation is that, based on these numbers, it will have the most extension, be competitive in terms of max output, and have the least amount of distortion over its operating bandwidth. Plus it's on sale.

I would either go with the Dayton 1200 or the SVS SB 1000 afterlive2 recommended. Not saying that the other subs mentioned are bad subs now. I just happen to have a habit of buying low priced or expensive, most of the time buying in between is a waste of money, then you keep wondering if I would have spend a little more I would have done a lot better.

I recently put the Dayton 1200 into my rig with the wireless kit for 149 shipped. Pretty impressive Apr. It really rounds out the bottom and it'll grab the LFE in a movie. I'm happy with it as a budget item.
