Best speaker box designing program?

Hey again everyone

I am just after a program that can calculate for me what sized box in Litres I require.

Im not after something complicated, Just where I enter values such as qms, qes, qts, vas,fr etc and I get a recommended capacity for sealed or vented.

The ones I have tried seem really complicated and often ask for values i dont have or didnt come with my drivers.

Any Suggestions?

Thanks

Im guessing you tried WinISD and WindISD Pro? I think you have enough values for it to calculate you a good box and allow you to play around with it. I picked it up in a night and I'm sure you can do the same. Also the manual is well written. Give it a try. Oh and its free :)

Hey

Yeh I had tried that although hadn't spent much time with it. I ended up getting bassbox pro and it seems really good and fairly easy to use.

Anyone else use it? What do you think?

Hey Rufes1

I have used Bass Box Pro for the past 3 years and have modelled 6 pairs of speakers. If you send me the driver parameters and desired F3 cutoff and use, I may be able to model something with you. I assume you're wanting to build a sub? Here are some full range cabinets I built using Eminence Kappa Pro LF15", Altec and LeSon tweeters. The center channel was mostly my creation as well. Hope I got the attachment right..........Lee

Hey JmanLP

Sorry about that, I forgot to mention that I also have the N801-8A crossover from Altec. (Crosses over at 800 Hz) As for the Leson tweeter, I simply connected it to the HF terminals along with the 811B horn, then ran a frequency phase test to get the alignment correct between all three drivers. Just about drove everyone crazy with tone generators, sweeps and white noise at our house, including the cat!

I should mention that I purchased two Altec A-7-800 kits back in 1976. The HF section is still good but the bass drivers (416-8A) were built with Alnico metal and have lost a fair amount of their magnetism. Also, the spiders were getting very weak so the "punch" area had basically disappeared. One voice coil has a mild rub, as well. I then e-mailed the senior prducts rep from Eminence and he was very familiar with the Altec line and recommended the Kappa Pro LF (600 watts). I also have the Paradigm Servo 15 for a sub, which was the subject of my first posts. I now have the alignment correct between the mains and Servo 15. Sure wish everyone could hear this system. The center channel has a 6" Eminence bass driver and RCF tweeter. Took a while to get the "dual horns" aligned but they are very smooth. I used a few capicitors in series for the x-over.

All the best.......Lee

Sounds like an awesome setup, I am a horn fanatic so I bet it would be right up my alley... I was thinking about doing a build involving a nice horn setup but I haven't seen a good tutuorial for a nice combo and I don't have the money to experiment myself. Maybe someday.

Horns are a science all on their own. I built my center channel horn because there was nothing on the market that could match the output and personality of the Altec sound. The trick was aligning the mid and upper frequency with respect to phase. If you ever decide to take it on, give me a note and I'll see if I can help. Below, is a closer view of the center channel horn array............Lee
