Back to the Future III, region 2, DTS 5.1. The locomotive scene at the end is particularly good, and so is the orchestral score throughout.

Collateral with Tom Cruise. Excellent film with excellent dts sound, even though its 5.1. I had to reset my rear surrounds to 20 feet from 7 feet - it didnt appear that they were on at first, but when I did, WOW. That film has unbelievable dynamics. It really separates DD from DTS IMO.

This DVD is a must for all HT people. It's only the deep, deep bass but the underwater details in the submarine.

Master and Commander: Far Side of the World

That one is just implied. I REALLY have to get the DTS Top Gun though.

I like 'The Haunting," "Gladiator," and one of my all time faves for demo "MI-2."

Team America! (Spoilers)

Just finished watching it, and had to turn the volume down several times because the subwoofer kept rattling the windows.

Awesome LFE at several points, but when Michael Moore destroys the Team America-World Headquarters, I thought the windows were gonna go...

Team America -- F**K YEAH!

WOW is all I can say. Top Gun 6.1 DTS is fantastic. A must hear for sure. I just bought U-571 today also and the Depth-Charged scene is everything people say it is.

After setting up my 2 new to me Pinnacles Model 98 Decibals and moving a couple others around and recalibrating, I got a hand full of DVD's out. Of course TOP GUN DTS 6.1 is awsome, along with Master and U571 to name a few. Then popped in The Phantom of the Opera to play with. The opening scene when the cover comes off the chandilier and the organ starts in. ! :) WOW! Had it cranked up pretty good, had the floor movin, and got a pretty good look from my wife from the other room too. ;)

DTS - Special edition and Extreme Edition query

Hi,

Could anyone please tell the diff between Special Edition and Extreme Edition DVD's .

1) I have the following movies in Special Edition - DD/DTS version all in 2 cd packs
I robot, The Day after tomorrow, X men 2, Dare Devil . These all work excellently when switched to DTS.The sound is mind-blowing.
Except Die Hard ( 1 cd ) when swichted to DTS doesn't work in DTS.It's written DTS on the pack, but I doubt it is.

2) Alien vs Predator is a Extreme Edition Pack. This too when switched to DTS doesn't stay on DTS. Works fine on DD. But why not on DTS??

4) My Home-Theatre set up is a Samsung 5.1 DVD with in built DTS decoder.
29" Samsung

Am i missing out on any settings ?

Thanks a lot

tiger_4,

I have the same problem with a DVD-A played in digital sound connection (instead of multichannel analog), and I need to do the following to get the DTS tracks:

1. Select DD surround
2. Start Play
3. Press "Set Menu" with the DVD player remote
4. Select DTS surround
5. Play

You may try the above procedure and see if it works for you.

Tiger_4,

I would also make sure that the DVD player is set at DTS "bitstream" and let the a/v processor do the DTS decoding.

Went to go buy Top Gun 6.1 DTS last night, found it, but Walmart only carries the full screen version. Then I started looking around and almost everything carried in the store here is full screen, took me forever to find a decent movie in widescreen. So, instead of getting Top Gun 6.1 I had to settle for The Fifth Element Ultimate Edition, superbit and dts. Got it home, turned it on, all I can say is WOW, amazing video and sound. The scene when they are in the opera house at the show was incredible.
