Hi,

I'm in the market for a surround sound amp/receiver and wondered if some wise people on the list might be able to give me some advice. I'm happy to pay up to US$2000 but would like to pay a little less if possible. I don't watch TV so the only equipment that I would be connecting to it are:-

Projector Sanyo Z2 (DVI)
DVD Denon 1910 (DVI)
An Xbox 360 in HD mode (when it finally comes out in Australia in March)

I might also hook up my old xbox as well but I'm not too fussed about that.

Since most, if not all my inputs are outputting in HD anyway I'm not sure if I would benifit from upscaling (I have been looking at the Denon AVR-4306) so maybe the AVR 3806 would be better for me?

On a totally unrelated subject has anyone plugged a Z2 into the 1910 using DVI and then tried the upscaling? I get little sparkles like fine snow or something all over the picture making the picture quality worse then when I leave it off. I have tried three diffrent DVI cables but no luck. Since the AVR-4306 used the same scaling chip I'm thinking I would get the same distortion with it too??

Thanks for you input in advance,

Jaime.

DVI Sparkles

How long is your DVD cable? Those Sparkles you are getting when using your DVI connection sure sounds like a cable problem and are very common with long DVI cable runs. I had a "sparkle" issue and purchased a good cable from DVIGear and the problem went away.

For $2000 have you considered Seperates? AV123.com and Outlaw have Pre/Pro & Amp combo's that fall into that price range, Outlaw has a 970 Pre/Pro and a 75W amp that comes in well below $2000 if I remember correctly.

How about the Yamaha RX-V2600 or the RX-V4600?

Thanks for the feedback ZoFo.

Hmm I'm at work now but from memory I think it is 3 meters. It has to be a resonable length because the Projector is on the back wall and the DVD player is on a table. Can you recommend any good brands that aren't gold plated and diamond encrusted for a *cough* better *cough* signal? :)
