Is there a thread voting the top media server software/apps? I have a W10 laptop I'm turning into a server. Plex? Jriver?
I dont have a need to stream movies from it. Just music I've ripped to FLAC and DSD.

For only music, I'd looks elsewhere, not at Plex - it's not that great with organizing large music collections.
Thought I do have plex and have a sizable music collection, but I can't say I love how it deals with music. PlexAmp is ok, especially since it works in Android Auto/CarPlay, but it missing some important features.
Like Plex doesn't support Flac and Cue sheet files. It would only play flac (whole album) as one track.

Maybe clementine will serve your needs:

Or maybe classic FooBar2000 with plugins
I've tested before DSD playback in FooBar2000 - https://help.nativedsd.com/en/articles/94982-foobar-2000-and-playing-dsf-audio-files

Thanks. I don't like Plex's movie focus. I did some tinkering with Foobar and think it will do what I want. Looks like it'll take a few hours to learn how to do the plugins.

I see that PlexAmp just went free for most features. Still I will try Fubar for now. Fubar SAYs it doesn't share my data with third parties. That's important to me.

Any recommended list of plugins for Fubar? I see a lot of them..

I don't have specific recommendations since I only used DSD plugins with my foobar, but Beefweb RC seems interesting for what you are trying to do, as well as the UPnP server.
The album list panel plugin (linked above) also seems relevant to you.

I use Plex for music, but as BSA said it kinda sucks for it unless you want to put in effort. Even then, it's a pain and the playback interface sucks ass on my devices.

People really like Roon. I've never used it, but it has a lot of features.

I wanted to mention Roon originally, but it's also lacking FLAC w/ CUE (support - not sure if this is important to you or not. It's also not free, but there are many fans of it.
Btw something I've learned recently is that as far as lossy codecs go: Opus>AAC>mp3

I've seen Opus come up again in the last few years.
