And from everything I have read there is one speaker brand that gets exceptional reviews no matter who or where it was tested.... Epos.... There has to some value in that.. I can not find a bad review anywhere on their book shelf speakers.

Reviews are one thing, pleasing your ears is another - remember a 30 day
trial period is the way to find out. No one can guarantee anything for you.

You may, or may not like the treble rise between 6 and 10 khz of the Epic 2

Can you tell me a little more about this? Not sure what this means.. Would this cause a harsh treble sound?

It does not guarantee a harsh treble - and some of it has to do with off-axis response.
It can sound like more of a vivid/shine to some people. It can sound like more detail
to others. Some people may be more sensitive to higher treble levels. If your room is
furnished well, it may not bother you at all. Depending on what you are use to listening
to (your last, or current set of speakers) - it may take some time for adjustment. A lot
of people like the Epos Epic 2

Your list does not seem to be getting short.:)

The Bagby's are just over budget at $1200.00

Continuum home

Bamberg Audio $895.00

I have not heard the continuum, but did audition Phil's s2tm at LSAF last year. Both were being demoed, but i just happened to miss the continuum. The s2tm completely blew me away with the sound. To me, they were the best of the show. The imaging was pinpoint, and the vocals were just perfect. Phil is a master designer, and his creations should be in anyone's shortlist.

Not to throw another option onto to the pile, but if you're open to an aluminum tweeter, I love my Totem Rainmakers. The Aperion Verus Grand is another nice set and they offer a free 30-day in-home trial.

While I didn't get a chance to hear the Series 2TM at LSAF last year, I did get to audition the Series 5 TMW. This was one of two speakers that I felt were best of the show (the other speaker retails for over $20000). Phil Bamberg is a designer who definitely knows what he is doing, especially when it comes to crossover design. He has been at it for decades. I can't wait to see what he brings to LSAF this year. I think the Series 2TM or the 2TM kit should be on anyone's shortlist to meet the $1K budget criteria. My $0.02

Guess I should add that I like a very warm sounding detailed speaker.. I can not take the harsh highs of my RF82's for music...They are in the HT set up.
Usually "warm" and "detailed" are at odds with each other. "Detailed" can often lead to the "harsh highs" that you don't like...

I owned Paradigm Studio 10s which, to me, were too detailed and came across as bright / harsh / fatiguing. I switched to LSA One Monitors and have been very happy -- incredible imaging and soundstage, with the right tonal balance for me. Basically, the tweeter is more laid back. For sure you lose some detail, but you get a warmer overall sounds that is more "musical" to me. Bass is very good too, and they're a gorgeous speaker (especially in the rosewood).

LSAs are getting blown out now by Underwood HiFi. I think you can get a brand new pair for $600.

Are the Axiom brand bookshelves any good? They are very low price and I haven't seen a lot about them. Just curious.
A good friend Brent Butterworth from S&V did a shootout of the Axiom M3v3 with other bookshelf speakers and it scored below the less expensive HSU and Music Mamba Speakers:

Review: Axiom Audio M3v3 | Sound & Vision

We also have a review of the Algonquin Outdoor speaker which is based on the M3 design here:

+1^

Dennis always welcomes visitors for auditions as well as visitors who are "just curious". A visit to Dennis's house is a must for any speaker junkie :D.

There probably have been more than a few who arrived as "just curious" but left as an owner-to-be. I speak from personal experience .

To give my answer to the OP's question, consider these 3 speakers:

Philharmonitor
Salk SongSurround I
Ascend Sierra-1
I need to make this visit at some point. I want to hear how the Phils compare to Mark's setup. I don't know anyone whose heard both. I will say a visit to Benedict is a must if you haven't made the trip. On top of a great audio setup he also has an amazing kitchen setup.

I don't have a lot of experience auditioning bookshelves, but I would definitely say it's worth your time auditioning the Aon 3. I have been slowly adding more Goldenear to my bedroom setup and I will be changing my home theater over to the Triton 1s when they get released in May. Not the prettiest speaker, but I can't complain about the sound.

Thanks everyone. It seems my list has gotten bigger..:D
I have been given suggestions over at the Emotiva board about moving my XPA-2 amp out of the equation and using powered Stealth 8 speakers for the room.. Oh boy. Let's open another thing..

I just discovered that Dennis is lives very close to a friend of mine. I will be headed that way in a few months for a wedding, so it seems that a visit is in order! Suckers ;)

Going to throw a wild card out here. Since I have loved the JBL sound since I was a kid. I know they are cheap but I am curious... And they could always end up in my Garage. How are the JBL L830's? Please give me feedback on these if you have them.
