I am super disapointed to hear that....i really thought that was going to be the one higher grade piece :(
Man I dont know if i can afford all this like i thought. if even what i was really excited about is only meh or ok maybe i should just stick with something more basic. I was really thinking i was getting a nice midrange set up that was going to be awesome but seems im looking at a more crap set up then iw as thinking.
What are you planning to spend on amplification? Good amplification doesn't have to be super expensive. Are you set on Fluance? What kind of budget are we looking at here? Those subs I linked above are all well under $1000...

*The PB2000 (or PC2000) is nicely discounted right now at SVS for $699 and it's a very nice sub. I'd get one of those and consider a second one before getting an outboard amp.

But not the separate amp, right? I wasn't sure about speakers because some of the posts read like he still had time to switch things up.

I still think there's hope for you Ketterer! What say you on my sub suggestions? I made those suggestions assuming you are in the states..?

Man, I hope we didn't scare him off... I don't think he'd have to spend as much as he thinks he does.

So here is the thing, I think ill have to end up sticking with this ultracube 10 for now. I was getting to for a steal at about 450 usd and he was willing to go a bit lower. I might push that now a bit more then i was thinking. He did agree to let me take it for a test drive for a week or so. Ill see if it will cut it for a awhile and look at a replacement/supplment it later.

as far as mains these ones so far sound great even on a crappy htib receiver so they will stick around for a bit then be moved to rears. I think my goals have moved a bit and the time line stretched but the result should be that much better.

Okay, well what about your amp situation? Which crappy HTIB receiver do you have? The Denon X3700? When it comes to HTIB the receiver is usually the best part, depending on which one you got. I'm trying to nail down your budget here and see if part of it can be redirected into the things that will improve performance. A lot of folks tend to overspend on receivers and amps and skimp on the sub.

3700 is a great receiver. If you can find a discounted 3600 you will get pretty much the same performance minus a couple of minor updates.

For $200 less you could get this Denon X4500H at AC4L for $999. It's a previous model, but still plenty current for today's uses and has a little bit more power. I would rather have it and funnel the savings into the better sub.

Also comes with a 3 year warranty.

I would add Canton to the list with ceramic tweets (I believe the Vento series...). @KEW was impressed enough to give them a slight edge over the Ultras.

I'd opt for the 830.2 for $250 less.
I believe the only difference between the two is some cosmetic updates (like hiding the screws behind trim rings and changing the color of the woofer from Aluminium to Titanium).
The newer ones do look better, but it is up to the buyer if he wants to spend the extra. Either one has great build quality!
