I am going out on a limb and chancing a Simon Cowell reaction.

I am a dedicated home theater enthusiest. I love to watch movies and hi def content in the comfort of my own home with the best possible equipment and source. There is an economic factor too as the medium must meet some characteristic of affordability and flexibility. I am married so the thought of getting the lawn mower and snowblower in the divorce settlement and she getting the home theater stuff keeps me honest when purchasing cutting edge equipment.

Which leads me to the following conclusion. I don't see any need for interactive content fo me or the people I hang out with who share our HT passion. We buy/rent a movie and watch it. Emphasis is on the quality picture and sound. But when it's over, we shut it down and socialize, drink or go to bed. What broad segment of the mass market has the time for all this "interactivity"? Seems like a big deal of time, money and effort is being put into this "niche" segment of the market for more cost but little widespread appeal.

I don't view this enhancement as the "holy grail" that will garner broad appeal among the masses that must join the Blu Ray juggernaut to make it a viable product for the long term.

I would like to see how others feel about this soon to be available option, I know PS3 has it now, and is it really worth all the fuss.

Give me the best picture and all the new sound codecs and I''ll be happy.

I feel about like you do except I figure if interactivity comes with the BD package, what does it hurt. Maybe it will get to be a big feature with Joe Public and help gain mass market acceptance for BD. Maybe the marketing guys did their homework and came up with something that may prove to be popular. If not it will probably fade away as it probably costs additional money to include it on the disc.

You guys are being impatient and unimaginative. The first interactive stuff on HD DVD was a lame web poll. We blinked, then we were doing community screenings. HD DVD died before the full potential could be realized. BD-Live will get compelling content. Unfortunately, it has to work with slow, cumbersome Java, but it will get there!

You can compare it to "extra-bonus material" on DVDs, who really goes for that stuff? After you do it once (out of curiosity) you'll never do it again, younger people might go for it, those that prefer "the movie, please" will not bother, I'd say more than anything it's marketing fluff, maybe getting consumers conditioned and comfortable with VOD downloading/interaction. It's a feature that won't make any difference to me what so ever, I prefer outstanding sound and picture quality, anything above that is pure marketing fluff.:)
