Bass Management Questions

Maybe it is another bad amp then....I'd contact SVS.
I did. they think it's a bad pot for the gain knob.

here's where it gets good. I now think there's nothing wrong with the first sub. the bad pot on the one made the other look like it was underperforming, but in reality it was fine. the other one was being overdriven. I have a new amp on the way anyway, so I'm going to replace the one with the bad pot instead and see how it goes.

I did manage to find a "sweet spot" on the gain at around 50% and it's not being overdriven. if I so much as bump it though, it gets WAY too loud.

I hooked the other sub back up and ran audyssey (again) with the gain in that sweet spot. it trimmed them to -5 with both subs at 50% gain and sounds like it should. it has to be the pot for the gain on the one sub. like I said, if just lightly bump the knob it goes into overdrive.

I sure am glad I figured it out before I swapped the wrong amp out and sent it back.

Man oh man! Good job. I might have been tempted to use my 12ga app for that.
herbu, assuming you're being sincere, thank you. also assuming your 12GA app is a shotgun, my frustration was reaching those levels.

it was driving me crazy. I had one with a messed up pot for gain that would randomly go full volume out of nowhere. looking at both it appeared one was working and the other only about half working, but none of it sounded right. then I'd run audyssey and couldn't get accurate readings... no wonder.

I'm pretty new to all of this still. a broken pot was not even on my radar. I just new something wasn't right. thank you to most of you who were actually helpful and patient enough to put up with me. that's why I came here to begin with. I do believe I have my arms wrapped around the situation now.
