Background silence is golden

In my main system I can play Pink Noise at an SPL between 85-100dB measured 10 ft. away, stop the track and leave the volume level untouched, put my ear right on the tweeter and hear total silence- zero, zilch, nada.

It's definitely possible but not much typical gear can do it. As a matter of fact, that is one of the things I always compare when I bring gear in here. The noise floor is an important factor to me.

NOTE: Some gear tricks you into thinking it's quiet because it will shut down the output if no signal is detected (ie. digital signal into built in DAC). In my main system this is not the case. Running an external source into AUX (or similar) is a better way to hear if the gear is truly silent.
