I keep seeing DIY, obviously I get what it is, and i've built plenty of subwoofer enclosures for cars. is it close to the same thing? minus the amp being internal?
Not a world of difference, no. Amp can be internal or you can use an external pro amp.

also one of the subs I mentioned earlier the BIC pl-200 for what it is, is it any good?
Data-Bass

OK, but nothing special.

But, I would probably want to use a subwoofer that is higher in sensitivity...?
I think maybe down the line im gunna have to experiment with DIY home sub...

Me and some friends actually hooked up 3 car subs in a house to my older denon 1603. That was a fun experiment. 1 car battery and a 25amp charger... 3000watts ish...

oh okay... Cause I was seeing them for about 300 new extended warranty on amp and woofer.

Steve81;927858]For DIY, one idea (out of many)
Is it like home audio SIN to use a car subwoofer haha? cause I could get my hands on subwoofers that will come close to that Dayton, if not surpass it in performance for a lot less...

Yes, the subwoofer police will come to your house and take you away

Out of curiosity, what did you have in mind?

That depends on the driver and ultimately the design of the sub, but yes they can be used.

I was looking at an Alpine type-R 15inch. 750watts RMS, 2000W max
with a sensitivity 87db. Response is 20- 400Hz, dual voice coil at 2ohm per coil or 4 ohm.

I have the 10inch in my car now and as i mentioned i put it in a house, it sounds fairly good too.

Almost forgot to mention, I went and bought a used klipsch rw-12d, 329 shipped. It has a small scratch in the wood towards the back and is missing the cover (who would want to keep its good looks concealed anyways). when it arrives, is there any integrity test I should perform to know its in well working order? (Don't worry its got buyer protection haha).

I'd expect you should be able to work something out with it. You could pop the T/S parameters into some free modeling software to get an idea of what can and cannot be done that driver at least. If you're interested in pursuing DIY with this driver, you might pop into the DIY section of the forums and start a thread to get more responses.

Just play some tunes or watch a movie you know reasonably well with some good bass content, and you should be able to discern whether or not it's in good working order fairly easily.

true true, I'm going to have to get into DIY more in the future start with what subwoofers I have laying around.

Yea that what I figured, just wasn't sure if there was some sort of tricks of the trade.
With all said and done I will let everyone know how it is, once I get it delivered. :)
