Hey Doug. No, I don't own headphones but a few people have already mentioned that option to me. Fore the time being, I will have to pass. Not really too fond of them. Oh, I been looking at that Denon for a while now. However, the Yamaha RX-V673 looks better to me. What do you think about the Yammy?
Love Yamaha Receivers...It's better looking too, but if I were you (and I'm not:)) I'd get the Denon for these reasons. Price and Audyssey Dynamic EQ & Audyssey Dynamic Volume. YMMV.

Nice to see you back here. You are definitely on the right track. I would concentrate more on the sub than the receiver.

I heard those two moved in together and plan to adopt a child. NTTAWWT. :D

KEW owned both at the same time and agrees with you. I've never heard them myself but Kurt's word carries some weight regarding sound so congratulations on choosing wisely.

Buried in this thread is an account of the comparison I did of your 360s that I modified and Kurt's stock version of the same. There's also some pic's of your old Infinities in their new home.

I never got to try it out but I always had the sneaking suspicion that the smaller 2 way center would have done a better job than the bigger 3 way. BTW, your smaller 2 way and Kurt's Primus 362s are shacking up in my friend Eddie's system. It's like a speaker soap opera.
Tanks Alex for the link. Very interesting to say the least. Funny you mention that the smaller Primus center channel sounded better than the larger. From what I remember, I did not notice anything "night" or "day" so to speak. However, I never really cranked it up because my neighbors were always complaining. My guess is, at louder volume levels the bigger Primus center would do a better job. Especially, before break-up. Glad my old Infinities found a good home.

Thanks Nad. The HT bug has NEVER left me, but at least I am back in the game somewhat. Hope all is well your way.

Yes, I agree 100%. I prefer Audyssey over YPAO any day. However, when the time comes I can get a real good deal on a Yammy. That being said, the RX-V673 has my attention. It also comes with the advanced YPAO that I have yet to experience. Do you have any experience with advanced YPAO? Does it really make a difference?

Good advice. However, a sub might get me into trouble with my neighbors......hahahahahah! Especially, given my history! But, you make a valid point. Not exactly sure which way I will go. it all depends on what I get out of the Integra 5.5. The Pioneer towers have some tight decent bass to them. Sure surprised me. I am still amazed at how good they sound for the money.

IMHO, that's why they get recommended so much right now. They are pretty much impossible to beat for the price. I listen to my BS22s a lot.

Yeah, I have not heard ANY speakers that sound as good for the money. It looks like I got one heck of a deal. The towers only cost me $160 plus tax. Not bad if you ask me.

Nope, no experience with the newer versions of YPAO...I'm still using my RX-V2500.:)

Phil,

I contracted the upgrade bug a little earlier than you, but I was led to the same set of Andrew Jones speakers! Loving them!! Blu-ray concerts like Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds at Radio City sound palpable and clear and dynamic!

I'm also in the same boat due to having an older AVR that doesn't decode lossless Blu-ray soundtracks (I got lucky in that my Pioneer BDP-51FD blu-ray player can do the decoding and pass it through 5.1 channel analog outs to that AVR (an ancient Yamaha with analog ins!). So, as things are now, I don't feel the urge to upgrade to an HDMI-equipped AVR right away. What I DO feel the urge to upgrade soon is the POS Yamaha sub that came with the AVR. For the money, I'm leaning towards one of the BiC America subs (either the F12 or the V1220). They're each below $200 and have decent power, driver size (12"), and low frequency response. If I were going to upgrade my AVR now, I'd probably get a Marantz or Onkyo with pre-outs.

Thanks Steve. i will keep the Dayton in mind. However, it may be a bit big both in terms of size AND performance. There just is not enough room. An 8" sub would be more ideal.
The problem with getting a sub that small that goes as deep as you'll need is that it will be pricey.

For example, Defintive Technology makes the SuperCube 2000 that fits the bill, but it runs about $699 new! You must look for open box or used deals for this to work for you.

I see. I bet the new more advanced YPAO is suuuhhhhwwwweeeetttttt.......LOL! BTW, the 2500 is an awesome piece of equipment! What does it weigh do you know off hand? The Integra DTR 5.5 weighs in at 30 lbs. or so. Just curious Doug.

Interesting read. Sounds like you are quite lucky. I was looking to go the same route as you albeit the multi-channel inputs on the Integra 5.5, but my BR player does not have the 5.1 outputs. I did a little research and found one, but good Lord it is $277 or so. For that, I can get a new receiver and be done with it. The Yammy RX-V673 really looks so tempting. As far as subs go, I need to stay away from the bigger subs because of being told to move. I only need a "little" more extension for the LFE when watching movies. The Pioneer towers will suffice when listening to music-which I do a lot of. That is why I am sold on an 8" sub. The Pioneer 8" sub will be enough for my needs right now. Thank you for the suggestions.

Ugh.. I can't stand the Wildcats... I'm so glad you're posting again but your signature makes me want to punch myself in the eyes. :)

HA! So great to see your digital self, Phil. Crazy how you get used to certain people being around and wonder how they're doing when they're not all of a sudden. I sincerely hope you're well, sir... so great to see you posting again.

Lets be honest- almost none of my posts have anything to do with audio and I'm not looking to change that now, but it sounds like you've got some great gear. Best of luck in your search to fill in the rest of it...

Go BLUE DEVILS! haha.. I can't stand Duke either.. WOOOOO pig soooie! Yeah, that felt better..

Before you buy the Pioneer sub, make sure you can return it with no hassle should you not be blown away by it.

Hahahahahahaha! Hey, the Wildcats got their a$$ handed to them today. We lost our star player to a torn acl injury when playing Florida last week. In fact, I look to see Florida win it all. If not, they will be very close I assure you that. BTW, I am NOT a Duke fan either, but I do have a lot of respect for coach K. Thanks, for your kind words. Hope all is well your way.

Sure thing bro! Not really in no big hurry anyways. Right now, it looks like a receiver is going to be my next purchase. The Integra is already being a BIG hassle.
