Now haraldo, tell me you're not dissing the Marlan head, are you? Acudeftechguy, HOLD me back!!!!!!!

Good thing is, if you don't like it, you don't have to buy it. And that is the beauty of this hobby.:D Mind you, if I thought I could get away with it without my privates being affected (angry wife:mad:) I would have a different system in each room of the house. :p

Problem with the 802d is that they don't give me the illusion that I'm listening to music, but clearly sounds synthetical making me the clear impression that this is not real
It's just my opinion through the auditioning I've done....

Maybe they're impressive, and maybe they have an impressive design but to me they're not musical speakers.....

I'd easily prefer any model Duntech's over the 802d, even the small bookshelf's.....

But I still wanna checkout the 805d's

This might be blaspheme but I'd be willing to give a bit of musicality for the flat out gorgeousness of the big B&W's. I really want to get away from the rectantgular monolith. I like that they still look like speakers but look artful like fine piece of furniture as well.

It's been a long time since I listened to them, but I hope I still like them as much as I did the last time when it comes time to pull the trigger.

This audio-buying disease is contagious, isn't it? You spend enough time here and you run the risk of being infected until you reach the precipice! :D

I actually tried to save you some money by recommending ATI amps. But it's your dream system. So it's good you got exactly what you wanted. :)
absolutely!! I call it my crack habit!! And I have to take days off...

That was Flyboy. I'm just stirring the pot along with you

My wife is tolerant as well. I can do whatever my budget allows, as long as I spend equal time/attn on things she's interested, like the kitchen redo, etc.

I'm sure there are those who would have you shot for saying that, but I understand your point - unless we have ADTG's $$ and can buy anything and everything we like (just messing with ya), we all have to compromise. Like you, the aesthetics do matter to me somewhat, so I can see your point. When the room can be dedicated to music, and I'm the only one in there, how the speakers or anything else looks doesn't matter, but when the room is also a place where my darling wife will be too, and she does care how it looks, then priorities change...

The VA's are not so boxy, thne Dunlavy SC-VI are boxy speakers
And to be honest I would much rather have a set of second hand SC-V or SC-VI's than the B&W ....

There is all this talk about VA and measurements, I auditioned the VA Mahler over and over and over again, and I was exceedingly happy with them, not a clue of any unlinearity that I could comprehend, probably some of the very best speakers I ever heard, much better working than the 802d's as far as it worked in my auditioning.... I'm not saying this as a fact, it's just what I experienced....

To me the 802d's are not really well performing speakers at all......
Well, as they say, to each his own. :D

I've compared the 802D2 in the same room with my Salon2, KEF 201/2, Orion3, and Phil3, and to me the 802D2 are as great performing as any speaker - subjectively.

And as far as aesthetics, some people like boxy and some like curvy.

When it comes to SUV, I prefer boxy (Range Rover, Mercedes G-class). But when it comes to speakers, I prefer curvy. So only a matter of preference. ;)

When you own 802D2 + MC452, you should feel untouchable by any disparaging remarks. :D

Seriously, even if I were a billionaire, I would still have a room with B&W + McIntosh unequivocally. Untouchable. :D

One thing to keep in mind is that there are many variables when comparing speakers - usually different system, room, setup, volume level, memory, etc.

Unless you are comparing 2 speakers in the same room concurrently separated only by a speaker selector + volume level matching, all bets are off.

I like this thread though, and good that we can have this discussion :D
I'll get back to you when I had a proper audition of the 805d's :p

IMO you would NOT be giving up anything if you own the big B&W (if money is no concern).

Yeah, that'll be in the thread titled "I hate curvy B&W and prefer boxy women". :D

Probably yes, but the 805d's me looks better than the 802d's if you ask me .....
Different is our perception. :D

I would not have even considered the 802 if it had looked like the 805 (no Marlan Head).

Are you contemplating on buying more speakers?

I am certainly not for sure. :D

There are never enough speakers :p
I am not buying now in the close future, but if I were looking for something withing this price range I would probably better go with the Audio physic virgo 25, or if I could really stretch the avantera's..... I am very undetermined at the moment.... almost like a woman....

But I'll stick with my Meadowlark Kestrel2's and Duntech PCL-15's for now

I don't know what boxy women look like. :D
I do; my ex wife, but I'm trying as hard as I can to forget!!!

I like the trend of narrow(er) towers with curved cabinets, like the 803D, Aerial 7T, and some others, at least for the room the system is in now. Were I to build a music-only room like flyboy has, I wouldn't care at all about the cosmetics, though.

Yeah, just personal tastes. No big deal. The speakers, I mean. :D

Boxy women? What does that even mean? :D

Masculine?
Obese?
