I just bought these, anyone hear using them? Are they pretty good for starting out?

If you are referring to the DM302, then yes I have had a pair for about 4 years. I paid $250 for them, and at the time they were pretty good. They had a lot more "sparkle" then my Magnepan MMG's. I think the Maggies are pretty soft up top, but I'm used to it.

I actually ended up replacing the woofer in the 302's with a carbon fiber driver I bought from Parts Express, and they now currently reside as surround speakers for my Xbox.

If you want to take them apart, there are 6 screws (1 in each corner and one in the middle sides), you can tell by finding the "inverted triangles" that just go straight back. You'll need a long phillips, like a 12" shaft. Crossover was pretty plain jane (2nd order), iron core inductor on woofer and air core on tweeter, all regular bipolar caps, and what looked like a zobel circuit on the woofer. There are two U shaped plastic clips that screw into the back of the front that hold the woofer in by compression. The tweeter is held in place by a plastic bar that goes across the back and is screwed into the back of the face plate. Box looked to be made of 1/4" (maybe 3/8") particle board (definently not MDF). Can't remember if there was any stuffing of any kind inside, don't think so though.

When I first had them, I placed each on top of a small 8" powered sub (Atlantic Technologies PBM162) and they sounded great for the price. After having the Maggies for so long, the extended highs would start to hurt my ears after extended listening, but that shouldn't be the case in most applications.

If you got something like two of these powered subs and a short stand (Example 1 Example 2) on top you would have a very enjoyable system that would be very flexible and not cost a ton.

Nothing like reviving a 8 year old thread. But you information might prove useful to me as I am trying to get the tweeter out of my DM302s.
I unscrewed the 4 in the corners, but couldn't figure out the rest. Also, is it worth replacing the tweeters or not cost effective? I got the speakers for free but the tweets are not working on either one.
Thanks.

Contact B&W to see if the tweeters are still made. They may or may not still be available, or there may be a replacement. IMO, if the tweeters are expensive then no, it probably wouldn't be worth it. If they are cheap, go for it.

Thanks. I'll try contacting them. Are tweeters fairly easy to replace?

I wouldn't expect the 30X B&Ws to be too complicated to replace. Since you took the screws out and they didn't come out, they are either installed with a sealant or they just fit tight and may require a bit of prying. You might take the woofer out and see if you can push the tweeter out, or just try carefully prying them out.
