axiom's advice to me...WOW

well i just measured.
my current room is. 18 x 15 x 8.5 vaulted up to 12 an is a very open floor plan so there are to big openings into that box to go into the dining area/kitchen or entry of the house.

i underestimated my room size when i called them. Ill have to call tomarrow again.

With your room size you very well could, if you really wanted to, place the M80s in your room without difficulties. I have a set in a room slightly smaller than yours and imo they sound great.

The size of speaker you should go with should correlate to how loud you like to listen to music and movies. I have both M22’s and M80’s in a much smaller room than yours. While the M22’s carry their own weight amazingly well, I found them to be lacking in overall music playback. With movies, it didn’t seam to make a huge difference going with the 80’s over the 22’s. The sub carries most of the load for movies.

But, Axiom has a free upgrade policy. If you try the M22’s and find them lacking, just call Axiom and they’ll ship out a larger speaker with return shipping pre-paid. Pretty hard to beat that deal.

I have nothing but praise for Axiom customer service. They are outstanding and extremely helpful. They are either there waiting for your call, or they will call you back within minutes if you have a problem. I sent an email at 8:00 PM one night thinking I’d get a reply the next day. I didn’t…..I got a phone call twenty minutes later.

LOL! It will be interesting to see if they still recommend the M22s. My opinion is go for the M60s, but the M80s wouldn't necessarily be overkill. Keep in mind the M80s are 4 ohm speakers. If you are considering the M80s, be sure your receiver/separates can handle a 4 ohm load comfortably.

I wouldn't be surprised if their recommendations changed.

Thanks for all of the great posts! I am in the market for the M60's, VP150, and the QS8's. Alan from Axiom has already e-mailed me with really good info and advice. So far I am impressed and I haven't even purchased yet!

Everyone here is causing me a nasty little headache. I am looking to pretty much replace everything I have.

Every time I think Ive decided on a set of speakers, I find a thread or a review that causes me to rethink what I want. I pretty much decided on getting the Axioms but then I read the reviews on the RBH then I see the Onix. The only thing I thought I knew for sure was that I was getting an Onkyo 801, mostly because of the price. Now I wish someone would send me all of this stuff right now so I can listen to it and finally know what to do here.Just to let you know,,I do know, and have had good stuff before, BW (before wife). Years ago I had a real nice McIntosh setup and ended up selling it off for a new kitchen for the wife. NOW ITS MY TURN.

my room is 23 x 18 and i also was considering the M80's.
they rec. the M60's and ive had them for about 6 months now.

I also have the VP150 and i couldnt be happier with the setup.

they all use the same drivers and the 80's have 2 tweeters.
I have read that some find the 80's a little too bright.I dont think the 60's are bright at all but they definitely dont have the warm sound that many speakers have.

The M80's are 4 ohm speakers so you do need a good amp to drive them.

Even with the M80's i think you need a sub,especially for HT.

I had a similar experience with Axiom. They said M22 would be plenty good as long as I got a sub also.

I promptly ordered the M60s however because you never know when you might want to move your set up to a bigger room some day. I'm real happy with them btw.

What discussions has anyone had regarding the QS4 vs. QS8s? At what point is the QS8 really required? There isnt THAT much content in the surrounds and it seems you could save some $ and get larger mains or larger sub....
