Looking to help a musician friend with a laptop recommendation for audio recording. Primarily need recommendations for (input)microphone/line in and associated software.

are you looking for $500 laptop or $500 usb audio interface ?
or everything above plus software for total of $500

He would like to do all in for $500 ish. I would like him to double his budget. Once I have an idea where to find the interface I can help him nail it down more firmly. Also he hasn't told me how many simultaneous tracks he wants etc. I don't even know who makes the bloody interfaces. If someone can provide me with links to interface manufacturers then I take it from there.
