Audio Critic's Ten Biggest Lies

Of course we each of us perceive the world differently. That's not the issue. The issue is that you wrote:
You may perceive that you heard something but that doesn't mean it exists.
One can talk to a dog about anything one wishes. Whether or not it'll listen to you is another thing altogether. :)
Perceive anything you wish. Just don't declare it exists unless it does.
Great responses. :D

Assuming that the straw is actually straight in reality. :)

EDIT: My responses are getting more and more lame...
Then let's use MY example of a straight steel pipe:D

Can you see a difference in the colour of the squares on the checker board? If you can, well, actually you can't because they're identical. Your mind is easily fooled.

Are you still sure there's a difference if you can hear a difference?

With acknowledgement to Zhimbo for link. :)
That is a good one too. I should have bookmarked another page with a bunch more.:D

In any case, if he's happy with his amp...good for him. :)
But that is not what he was posting, that he likes his component choices. HE made some testable claims, if my short term memory is good enough:D

No question. I have a masters, and you've seen the kind of drivel that I throw out here. :)
Drivel??? Hardly. Don't under estimate your posts. HE tried to use his to maybe impress others? Convince by 'authority?'
Not you. We discuss and learn or try to what we don't know or fortify what we think we know:D HE makes absolute statements, on the other hand.
Others here have PhDs yet is not shoved in others faces. No, not me.
Just keep up your posts. We all learn from our own questions and answers. Some answers and questions are a probing to learn more, so I think, rightly or wrongly but is my process of learning at times.:D

How much is an Iota? Twice as much as half an Iota.
My point, based on the discussion between Adam and Robbie is.....besides identities (such as your iota equation, which is a human construct), is there a truth?

(But that's a cute truth, MDS. :))

Identities are constructs. That's why not. 1+1 = 2 is a construct. It has no reality other than as a construct.
I agree. I never wrote that identities exist in reality. I alluded to the fact that they represent reality when their variables hold values representative of real quantities. Not the same thing. Besides, your previous comment discussed proof, not reality; i.e. existence. Again, not the same thing.

Do you believe that human constructs are "truth", then? That would make you take a full turn back to 'reality is only what is perceived'...
Well we can't have that now can we? :D

Thanks, mtry! I gotta say, though, when Robbie throws out "deterministic" and I have to look it up (especially when I was the first to go philosophical)...makes me feel like I should be sitting in a cave scratching myself. (Not that there's anything wrong with that...Stratman. :))

Yes! I'm going to bed now and that's the truth. :D

Good night folks! :)

That's not what I said. Relating to Adam's cogent comment concerning the philosophical issue of "fundamental truths", I asked you about your truths other than identities or mathematical 'proofs' (such as MDS's iota equation). Your comment to Adam was "there are...there are", and I wanted to know one, lol. I wanted to understand what constitutes "fundamental truths" to you....what the concept means to you.

50 gallons of hot water used up in a shower by 1 person?
No, my wife doesn't use up all the hot water...think of it like this:

1) Hot water is taken from the water heater.
2) Water heater tank begins to refill with much cooler water.
3) Temperature of water in heater is reduced by the addition of cold water
4) Hot water heater kicks on to re-heat water.
5) The loss of hot water and influx of cold water overpowers the amount of heating power in the water heater.
6) Temperature of hot water leaving water heater is reduced from the initial temperature until water being taken from heater is ended and heater has time to reheat the water.

She just likes scolding hot showers. Way too hot for me!

You're probably right about the amount of savings, especially during the summer since the garage temperature hovers around 100-110 degrees in Phoenix. I'd probably see more savings in the winter since the garage temperature is much cooler.

Well here is a fundamental truth for you: 'There is water at the bottom of the ocean'. I heard it in a song, so it must be true. :D

Yeah, but which ocean? It could make a difference, ya know. And what speakers were playing the song? They could full of ...(ahem) distortion.

;)
