I dont really need the SACD, dont really do the DVD's anymore. I am guessing the Panasonic is more for me. I will admit the Oppo is more appealing, but who cares about that stuff. :)

Did I tell you I have TWO $2000 Denon Universal/BD players sitting in my closet?

I don't even use them anymore!

I for BDs, I use my two HTPCs. I basically use my Panasonic for the Netflix streaming. Sometimes, rarely, I will put a BD disc in my Pansonic, which looks just as good as my expensive Denon BD players.

What do you use for the HTPC? I have seen a lot of people saying they use a mac mini.

I built my HTPCs with Intel Quad Core CPUs and run Windows 7 Ultimate OS.

My BDs (both hard disc and ripped BD ISO files) are played back on PowerDVD10 Ultimate, which can bitstream Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA.

Can Mac iOS bitstream Dolby TrueHD & DTS-HD MA?

I dont know. I was asking around about how people ran their media servers on their systems and a lot of peolple have said the mac mini. I for one hate Mac, well except the Iphone. I have a quad core laptop I was wanting to convert to be part of the theater room but couldnt find a program that didnt have a lag while playing bluerays. I have also experienced a lag with audio being off a hair, that will make me shut off a movie in a heartbeart. I have yet to figure that out, was thinking it was because the USB was 2.0 and too slow but I am fairly dumb when it comes to that.

With the exception of SACD/DVDA, satellite dish, & premium cable contents, a HTPC can play back any content including BD/DVD/CD, Netflix streaming, OTA & regular digital cable.

What lag? Like a pause for 1 second repeated throughout the entire movie? Yeah, I would not tolerate that either.

Just get the Panasonic 220 BD for $129. If you don't like, return with free shipping.

I will have to dedicate my laptop to the HT.

Yeah the lag is mostly just with the sound. Its just a hair off but it is so annoying. Like watching one of the old Karate movies. LOL

I will probably pick up the Panasonic. Such a great price for a good unit.

Ok I have a question about the receiver. I am trying to read and figure out the receiver/amp/pre-amp configuration. The Marantz 5006 has a pre-amp output but only 2.2, where as the 6006 has the 7.2. Does this mean I can only have two speakers go to an external amp or am I just confused. If I am wrong could you please explain that process to me. Or at least give me a thread to read.

If it only has pre-out for 2.1, then yes you can only have 2 speakers to the external amp.

If it has 7.1 pre-out, then you can have 7 speakers.

Damn, I didn't even realize this. The 5003/5004/5005 all had a full set of preouts. that sucks.

Seems right. What does Yamaha offer in that price range? Getting a receiver with full preouts IMO is a must.

I will go check them out. I know they just introduced the new 71 line of receivers. Got to go do some more reading.

You should be able to get last years (or the year prior's, I forget) RX-V667 or RX-A700 for $350-400, and they have a full set of preouts.

Do they have the network capablity, for some reason I like that ability.

The 667 doesn't have it, and I don't think the 700 will either since it's just the Aventage version of the 667.

Guess what showed up today. Almost there....

Please pay no attention to the cheap dishwasher(base housing), not the cheap wine which was used to cook a roast. Just an FYI, a better wine is recommended.

Yeah, I am probably going to drop these off to get painted or stained. Also the drivers are already attached to the tweeters. I was under the impression that I had to do this. Still a fair amount of work but not as much as I first anticipated.

I will start a new thread in the DIY Corner with some pics.
