Assignable channel

I have a 7.2 AVR at the moment. Has anyone ever hooked up an additional set of front speakers to the assigned rear surround. Basically having (2)FL and (2)FR along with a Center (2) surrounds and (2) subs.

What avr do you have particularly? If you hook a pair of speakers to the rear surround terminals then rear surround information will be played through them and if you put them in the front of the room it won't be the correct location for such. Now if your avr has that stupid bi-amp feature then you could get the left/right signal to two pairs of speakers. Having two speakers playing the same information in a channel is usually not recommended for acoustic reasons, such as comb filtering.

Yeah, it's mostly unnecessary and fruitless unless you're talking about real bi-amping, i.e. active bi-amping which is more involved.... passive bi-amping is more a marketing thing with avrs.....but almost no avrs ever had an active crossover bi-amp feature (a few Onkyos I know of several years back did). Orly? This is a whole new can of worms for me. I guess it just never occurred to me that an AVR would ever have such a feature. I could totally nerd out on something like that.

Onkyo 818 I was considering once had that feature. Pretty sure the 929 also had the feature. But what's Orly?
