Yeah, I got approval from Ascilabs and they took responsibility if I messed anything up. Gave me in-store credit for my troubles I'm going to use on their center channel when it releases.

Had a tweeter with no output, troubleshoot with the manufacturer and found a resistor got knocked loose. Thankfully removing the passive radiator gave me enough room to get the soldering gun in there.

The pic shows that the holes in the circuit board are not filled with solder (to be expected on inexpensive single sided circuit boards (without plated through holes), or that the leads did not fully wet; indicating a solder wave or flux issue; or operator inattention during manufacture; there is a fair to good chance that you will, eventually, have to remove the crossover circuit board and re-flux and re-solder each connection on the circuit/solder side, for long term reliability...

Hard to say not being able to see the underside of the board. I would give them the benefit of the doubt they know how to assemble an xover. I blame fed ex's subpar handling of the package if anything

I'm a bit suspicious of the original solder connection too. I can't imagine the dropping force that would be required for the weight of the resistor to break a solid solder connection. I can't tell for sure but it looks a bit like the lead was cut short, so not enough was poking through for a good connection, or when the extra length of lead was cut after soldering they also cut through the solder (I've done that).

Even then, from the resistor coating left on the circuit board it appears that it was also glued in place. Which again begs the question of how could the box be impacted hard enough to jar that loose without other things inside breaking? I just wouldn't think that the resistor would have enough mass to turn an impact into the force needed for breaking the solder connection and the glue to the board.

It would almost seem like it was damaged during assembly, possibly pushed back into place after and then jiggled free when jolted in transit.

Oh yeah, definitely thrown around during shipment. But with that said, could be a blessing in disguise. May have had intermittent dropouts. The kind that drives one crazy trying to locate, isolate.

Funny you posted this up, photo. I always pull XO out, to do a look see on new speakers I received. For the reason you found on yours. I also look at the speaker connector's to each driver, make sure they're properly secure and the right connector sizes.

Slightly different model though...C6B has a better woofer apparently, but if you are using a sub as most do it shouldn't matter....835 a pair includes shipping.

How to Speak AsciLAB :-

S= Signature model, using all Purifi drivers.

A= Purifi Aluminium woofer and ceramic-aluminium tweeter.

C= Ceramic Aluminium woofer and a ceramic-aluminium tweeter

F= Fibre woofer and an aluminium tweeter.

B=Bookshelf

C=Cardioid

The middle number represents the diameter of the main driver in inches.

The final letter denotes the type of enclosure.

I have the Revel F36 on hand so I can kinda reference it off those. I find the C6B overall a superior speaker to the F36, in my room, in every aspect except in overall SPL and dynamics.

I currently have the C6B off the front wall 11" and 12 ft for MLP, toed in 15-20 degrees and the imaging is some of the best I've had in this room.

There is no dip in the mid range for vocals that is so prevalent in most speakers. it takes your ears a bit to get used to it. Definitely picking up details in familiar music that I missed of forgot about. I think it also helps for lower leveling listening despite it being a high impedance/low efficiency speaker.

If I do keep them long term, I'm going to mess with a higher crossover to my Rythmik subs (100-125hz) as I feel mid bass is lacking for my tastes in movies and some music, but I think that is to be expected with most inefficient 6.5" bookshelves. I also think most situations beyond near-field you will need an external amp for these.

I have some Super Lintons showing up this week so it will be interesting to compare those as well.

The Super Lintons are excellent. Very netural like the C6B but with more bass, output and dynamics. I think the C6b were a little more accurate in the upper midrange but not by a significant margin.
Personally, i would pick the Super Lintons over the C6b unless price and space are restricted, or you mainly listen to acoustic/smaller ensemble music. I was a little surprised because I wasn't that fond of the Linton 58th's. they are very different speakers IMO.

Wow! I did not expect to hear that. Thanks so much for the response, Matt. The Super Lintons would be more of a match for my receiver, I think. Although I'd probably have to go with the Dentons, due to the room being narrow.

I can tell you there is no tweeter on Earth of that size that can handle the power band response at a 1 KHz crossover. The power in that range is enormous and at 1 KHz is psychoacoustically appears to the brain as actually in the bass decade. That is why you perceive it to be bass shy in my view.

Erin's measurements seem to indicate good data up to almost 96db, the compression test shows the same. I understand what you're saying but as a bookshelf speaker, especially at 85db, this seems to be a good one.
