They are very nice! To your knowledge, will other finishes be made available and pricing has yet to be determined?

We are all guessing from reading the release about them fitting into the $1500-4,000 competition level that the price will still be an Ascend like price and be around $1,000.

There's a lot of tough competition in the $1000 bookshelf category. I went through auditioning a bunch at the end of last year. It just seems as this area just keeps getting more and more crowded.

7 years ago Ascend made huge waves with the CBM-170 at $360. The second generation 170SE, which came 5 years later, is still pretty much the first speaker, for sound quality, that competitors compare their offerings to in that price range. I'm certainly hoping that Ascend can shake up a price point as much as they did 7 years ago.

Wow. I'm really impressed by the looks of those things, and if they live up to the goals they set in its design, should be a pretty impressive offering.

With that said, I also agree that the ~$1000 bookshelf room is getting pretty crowded. Lots of companies jockeying for position. Any idea when they're going to firm up a price on them?

Since, the release says more info everyday until Thursday or Friday. I assume the last post will be the price.

The 170-se are terrific little speakers for $360.00 a pair. The new ones are likely to be very special. I only wish the 340 center channel had mounting inserts.

They look like NHTs....

Why would you want to mount a 340?

Seemed to me to be an effort by Ascend detractors to derail the thread over there. I can only imagine what it will grow to over the week as more details are released. You'd think people would pay more attention to Curtis.

There is nothing to stir. It should be easily obvious to the most casual observer that Ascend is the best thing since canned beer. Only lower lifeforms would disagree.:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Seriously, how can they be debating a speaker nobody has heard yet?

Because Ascend is likely the company to thank for the sound quality you get under $500 a pair these days. What they did sound quality wise at $360 seven years ago was unheard of at the time and really shook things up.

Read the first couple of pages of the AV thread before it became pointless. All that discussion pro and con about the attractiveness of the enclosure???? Gimme a break! I stand with Mazersteven. Only the music matters.

Still doesn't answer the question.... They aren't sealed or front ported, so I wouldn't mount one near a wall, but that is just me.
It needs to be away from the wall whatever the diameter of the port. If the port is 2" then it needs to be at least 2" from wall.

Actually to get flush with the front of the DLP the speaker will be out about 2 feet and one foot above. I will try to sit the center channel on an old fashioned tv mount (shelf type). If it had an insert I could mount it from the bridge of the entertainment center.
