Seriously, I have no life.
It feels good to know that genes killed papa, not the bottle of Wild Turkey or the .38 revolver he shot himself with on Christmas Eve.
Well, genes do have a play on how much one drinks, just like some cannot stop eating, get the flu, etc. So, one cannot totally dismiss that aspect, or the DNA aspect, same issue.

Naaaaawww.....

This article only demonstrates the current scientific/political trend .
Are you blaming science for the discoveries? Or the answers or possible answers?
Perhaps everything is the persons fault, no matter what, right, Flu, extreme obesity, cancer, etc?
Political? I wonder who interjected politics into science so much as never before? One the first guess counts.:D

Yeah! And those rabid sheep that they have over there! They're all sorts of trouble, make people turn to the bottle, yeah.
Yes, of course. I think blaming Canada would encompass them too, up there:D :D

I only had the blue ones. The rest were other peoples. It was a camping trip.

Though I do believe that a state of prolonged melancholy can be harmful to your health.
Melancholy by itself is fine, but the absinthe, clove cigarettes, and NyQuil™ shooters can't be good for you.

There is a girl that goes skating on Adult Night that has red hair and the most perfect body you'll ever see. She's rather pretty too. Too bad she has destroyed her body with multiple tatoos. Why do young girls do that to themselves?

The pretty face and wild hair is attractive. The tatoos are not (for me).

I agree, look at the girl from LA Ink, Kat, pretty face, needs to lose baby fat a bit, but without all those tattos she's a doll.:(

Guess its a Gen-X thing. I have a couple tattoos and love them plus most girls think they look pretty good . Depending on the ink I think it looks pretty good on women too.

You sure?

"The study does not show which came first -- the loneliness or the physical traits. But it does suggest there may be a way to help prevent the deadly effects of loneliness"

"What this study shows is that the biological impact of social isolation reaches down into some of our most basic internal processes -- the activity of our genes," Cole said.

"The findings suggest that the loneliest people had unhealthy levels of chronic inflammation, which has been associated with heart and artery disease, arthritis, Alzheimer's and other ills.

The next step is to see if this might be treated, Cole said."

I don't see where anything at all anywhere in the article says that loneliness is caused by genetics. It says quite the opposite.
I'm not sure what connection that they are trying to make between loneliness and genetics. Are they saying that loneliness causes some form of genetic alteration that switches off certain functions of the genes?

Yep.

It's differential expression of genes. In this way "loneliness" would be no different from exercising, hunger, lack of sleep, sleeping...genes get turned on and off all the time for all sorts of reasons, that isn't in itself all that interesting.

What's actually interesting is that the set of genes that are affected by loneliness are largely tied to immune function.
