Well, I definitely won't be watching the Super Bowl this year.

2 teams I couldn't care less about. I hate the Giants because of Eli Manning, and I hate the Patriots, because they're.............. well, the Patriots. Plus it bugs me that Junior's finally gonna get his ring............. with the F'ing Patriots.

Oh well, at least Junior's finally gonna get his ring. But dammin, why did it have to be him, of all people to stop that TD run by Turner?!?!?!?!?

Oh well.
I won't say I'm not disappointed, discusted even, by the result of the game last night.
But in search of a silver lining to a dismal day here in Packerland; Here goes:

At the start of the season the Packers were 20:1 odds to get to the Superbowl. Not even considered to be in contention to take the division let alone have better than a .500 record. Farve himself wasn't exuding confidence.

I'm happy the Packers got as far as they did this year. Further would have been better but...

No, I haven't become an overnight Giants fan, nor do I feel the better team won, but the Giants played a good game, better than the Packers did.

The Giants are now an over-nite sensation so bring on the over-night fans. How can anyone HATE Eli? Quiet and modest the younger brother that could.

I don't deny that Taylor was a great linebacker. I just don't see how he SINGLE-HANDEDLY changed how the game of football was played. So no other linebacker EVER put their hand in the dirt before Taylor came along? No other linebacker was ever able to shed blocks and shoot a gap before Taylor came along? Gimme a break.

Then again, my opinion of him is probably tainted, as I will always remember him as a coke-head.
He did- why don't you do a little bit of reading on the subject. What you have to understand is that before LT a linebacker was only blocked by a tight end or a running back- you'd save the tackles and guards to block the defensive linemen and maybe a blitzing MLB. Bill Walsh was the first coach to ever use a guard to block an outside LB (described in detail in "The Blind Side"), and later coaches were double teaming him with a tackle and a guard, something that would leave HUGE holes in the o-line.

Some quotes to start you off:

John Madden: "Lawrence Taylor, defensively, has had as big an impact as any player I've ever seen. He changed the way defense is played, the way pass-rushing is played, the way linebackers play and the way offenses block linebackers."

Joe Gibbs: "Ee had to try in some way have a special game plan just for Lawrence Taylor. Now you didn't do that very often in this league but I think he's one person that we learned the lesson the hard way. We lost ball games."

As for the coke-head comment- so does that mean I should only think of Merriman as a cheating steroid addict?

I hate Eli because he disrespected my team, my city, and by association, me. Sorry, but I'll never forgive him for that. I hope he gets his leg broken in the Super Bowl.
After that San Diego did to Doug Flutie why would Eli want to play there?

No Respect.

The only people on that list I would put above LT are Payton and Jim Brown.
If you think there's any way that Emmitt, Sanders, or Dickerson would sit quietly on the sidelines in the biggest game of their careers, then you're crazy. Those guys would have played with a broken leg for a chance to reach the super bowl.

Rivers had two bad knees and Gates had a dislocated toe, but both of them played the entire game to the best of their abilities. I think Rivers is a trash-talking arrogant jerk, but I earned a lot of respect for him yesterday with the way he toughed out that game. Tomlinson played three plays and then claimed "I just didn't have it", and stood quietly on the sidelines wrapped in a parka all game- no cheering on his teammates and no lobbying to get back in the game. I totally understand that he had a strained MCL and that it probably hurt like hell, but 3 f-ing plays????

Maybe somebody should teach him that the team comes before individual stats.

I'd say Payton and Sanders are in classes all by themselves.

But could you not say that about Sayers and Campbell?

But then, conversely, it's a different game now, even when Sanders played. The plays are (offensive and defensive) are more complex, the players are faster and bigger and taller.

You're right about that. I couldn't believe LT didn't sack up and play.

Personally, I like that Rivers will mouth off to oposing players and fans. I'd be the same way. If you're gonna trash-talk me, you'd better expect to get it right back.

Go check out the espn.com board then..... LOTS of sore losers among the Packers fans saying some of the most ridiculous things.
Nope. Have no compulsion to do that aberkowitz. There's always a few bad apples...

I personally think Packers fans are some of the most respectful and knowledgable fans in the game, and the fact that they had a full house during -24 degree weather is a testament to how great your fans are.
Yes. There's was no cajoling of or by the Giants fans yesterday. It's all about the game at Lambeau...and we like it that way. If any one steps out of line, you're not only cheerfully helped out of the stadium, you'll most likely lose your season tickets. And I think the current waiting list is 70 years! We act accordingly not out of fear, but respect, and the visitors do the same.

It was a great game- and Favre or not you guys are going to be even better next year.
Yes, it was. We can click a little better, and I think we shall. But for a young team, there is no shame. And McCarthy is signing a new 5 year contract...he's a great coach. So there's much to look forward to in the upcoming years for the Pack. :)

Taylor was a disruptive force at outside linebacker, and is widely considered to have changed the pass rushing schemes, offensive line play, and offensive formations used in the NFL.

Giants General Manager George Young was one of the many who saw Taylor's potential and even predicted before the draft that he would be better than NFL legends such as **** Butkus: "Taylor is the best college linebacker I've ever seen. Sure, I saw **** Butkus play. There's no doubt in my mind about Taylor. He's bigger and stronger than Butkus was. On the blitz, he's devastating."

Steelers' Quarterback Terry Bradshaw played his only career game against Taylor. Many years later Bradshaw recalled, "[h]e dang-near killed me, I just kept saying, 'Who is this guy?' He kept coming from my blind side and just ripped my ribs to pieces."

Dude Emmitt Smith is the reason why LT's been running out of bounds and going down on plays for the last 2 years. LT went and talked to his childhood idol about extending his career and Smith told him to stop taking so many hits. Smith told LT that it's not worth it to deal with injuries for the rest of your life.

I daresay that all those Ex-NFL players that are suing the NFL for medical benefits would tend to agree.

First of all his name is Ladainian Tomlinson. Not LT.

The real LT (Lawrence Taylor) wouldn't have stayed on the bench all nice, and warm inside his coat. The real LT if injured, would have at least been on the side lines encouraging his team, not sitting in the back on a heated bench.

At the beginning just before the game. Ladainian Tomlinson was talking about having "Heart" in a taped interview. He had no heart yesterday, and left his team in a time of need.

My brother law made a great point today, he said there are football players and then there are football player-businessmen, the former plays for the love of the game, the latter for the love of the paycheck, the heart in these guys is finishing up the season so they can get into their Lambos and go party, the real player looks forward to the next season and can't wait to start strategizing.

It's real easy to take shots like these on today's football players in comparision with the Bart Starrs and Jim Browns of yesterday.
Unfortunately, the reality of things is that football today is a business. And being success in business requires longevity.
I'm not about to put myself into Tomlinson's head or make assumptions concerning the severity of his injuries. But if he, or more importantly the coaching staff, felt that his return to the game would threaten his or the team's future then that is their business.
This thread was started with the good intention of being fun. Not it's starting to get real ugly.

I played football for over 12 year.

I grew up in a time when you where part of a team you lived, breathe, sleep, eat, and died for that team. Maybe that's the problem with today's athlete. Is it all really only about the money?

I don't think it's gotten ugly- we're just talking football like fans always do :). The only thing missing is some beer and buffalo wings.
