I have a Yamaha RXV 1500 reciever with PSB Alpha B1's as fronts I use for listening to music, what a great little speaker. Recently I decided that I wanted more bass response from my fronts so being a PSB fan, I picked up a used pair of PSB Image 2b's (a level up from the alhpa's) that appread to be in good shape.

When I plugged them in the first thing I noticed is that they sounded like crap!! And we all know the anticipation of wiring up those new speaks for the first time!!! what a let down!!! The sound is flat, muffled with bad treble and little sound speration. at this point I'm thinking hahaha, no big deal, I just have to adjust my Bass Managment and EQ settings and then they will blow me away!!! Well.... I've been messing with my amp settings for two days now and these things still sound like crap. I know the images are a step up from the alpha's so what the hell is going on here?!?!?!

What could be cuasing this??? Both images sound the same (like crap) so I can't imagine that they would both be damaged in the same way. Is it possible that both drivers or tweets were blown out???

What a let down!!!

Something is odd here as the Images are a step up from the Alpha's which you like. You may have blown tweeters. Do you have another receiver to try hooking them up to just to be sure?

They should indeed be a step up from what you currently have.

How well did you know the buyer?

Is he local?

Are you sure the drivers are the originals?

Are you sure they are all working?

Can you get your money back?

Is he local?

No he lives about an hour away though, I confronted him and he basically said sorry about your luck. He's convinced that they sound fantastic.

Are you sure the drivers are the originals?

I believe so, I would have to open the boxes to confirm though.

Are you sure they are all working?

Not sure, the low mid range seems to sound ok but the high mid range and treble is crap. I think the speakers are blown, this would explain the missing mid high and hi. There is still sound coming from the tweets but it is not allot of sound. Even when I crank the high end of the EQ it does not make them to much bettter.

I told him I thought the honest thing to do would be to refund me or pay for replacment parts. He says "maybe they were damaged in transport", lol yeah I'm sure. He is an audio guy which surprises me. If I ever passed out bad equipment without knowing I'd be the first to refund it. I guess some people out there have no ethics...
