Anybody own PMC speakers?

I am very interested in M&K but I read on another forum that PMC speakers are very similar in that they provide great detail but sound better with music. I would like to audition the PMC DB1+ bookshelf with the DB1M C+ center for a possible 5.1 setup. Does anybody own this set-up, or has anyone heard PMC speakers? Does anyone from Ont. or Que. Canada know where I can locate a retailer? Thanks!

They aren't the easiest speakers to find, but the mid to larger models I've heard sound quite good. I would say the PMC's sound both better and can better handle dynamic peaks. The form factor isn't always as handy. Depending on budget, other worthy options might be ACI, Triad and NHT.

I own a full surround PMC package (albeit with Hsu subs). All IB1's including their center channel IB1C. Deep, tight, tuneful bass. Clean midrange, smooth high end. Great dynamic capability...great at background levels, thunderous and clean at high spl's. I used to own Dunlavy SV-IVa's, which utilize a different design philosophy and were marvelous speakers in their own right, overall I feel the PMC's have a slight edge.

PMC makes a great product that is utilized extensively in music and HT mastering...think Private Ryan, Big Fat Greek wedding in the movie world and a host of others in the music studio world...many engineers swear by them.

PMC's are not heavily marketed. In Canada, Bryston handles the line. James Tanner can point you to retailers in your area. Check out the Bryston/PMC area at www.audiocircle.com, James can be reached there or directly through the Bryston website www.bryston.ca. A lot of the other people frequenting the forum can comment on their PMC experience and are not fanboys. I bought mine on blind recc from a couple of studio engineering friends. While there are other competitive, good quality products, including some of the products marketed on this site, you will not be disappointed with PMC's.

good luck.

Thanks for the responses! I'm very interested in the PMC DB1S + 's with the matching center for a home theater setup. I would probably have to start with 1 pair and build up over the course of the year if I choose to go this route because the speakers are pretty expensive here in Canada ($1850 per pair). I would also like to know if my receiver ( Rotel RSX1055 @75wpc) would be enough to drive this system?

PMCs

The TB2 series might be a better choice then the DB1s. (I've owned a pair of DB1s and currently have five TB2s.) More effecient and improved bass extension.

You might keep an eye on www canuckaudiomart dot com for PMCs that come up from time to time.

Speakers in general contribute much more to sound quality than amplifiers once they exceeds a certain price point. $1850 is not cheap but if you spend the same amount on a 2 channel amp then you ought to spend at least the same to double the amount on speakers in order to take advantage of the quality of your amp. The RSX1055 is not cheap either but it is a 5 channel receiver. That 75wpc may or may not be enough depending on your room acoustic environment and your listening habit. It does have preouts so you can always add a 2 channel amp if prove necessary.

I own OB-1s and have had GB-1s and DB-1s on loan at various points in the past. I'm a big fan of PMC speakers in general, but the one thing that I've found is that (within reason) they thrive with more powerful amps. Now, I'm a subjective guy, so I know that might be a controversial view, but that's been my findings with all of them.

In any case, they're excellent sounding speakers.
