Sure, all of the Yamaha fans will say it is a great receiver (and it no doubt is but so are lots of other models from different manufacturers).

Well this one has stood out to me for price and what it can do for the price.

I just have not heard the power and sound from it??

Its not a bad reciever for its price bracket, At $390 its significantly more appealing then at the $500 bracket though to be honest, aside from the savings.

I think its important to know what features you really want your reciever to have? I haven't done any extensive looking, other then the spec sheet offered by Best Buy, but does it support HDMI 1.3a? It doesn't appear to support DTS-MA or LPCM, so thats something to consider if you plan to move into the high definition DVD market. Just some things to consider I guess.

I used to run an HTR model Yammy, and was happy with the sound, so I imagine that this would be a great product as well. Ultimately, you are going to pay for the features you choose to have regardless of brand, and yammy makes a good product from my experiences.

For the money that you are looking to purchase it for (not retail price) it offers great performance, features (yammy DSP is very good) and has been reliable in the short time the 661 has been on the market.

The HDMI in my opinion is only marginal in my book (search the archives on this forum for the 661 Limitations in respect to the HDMI). I recently purchased the RX-V659 afetr considering bothe the 661 & 659. The 661 is the replacement to the 659 and offers a few additional features and HDMI that the 659 does not have. When weighing all factors I went with the 659 because the Amplifier section of the 659 is a little better than the 661 and my needs for HDMI from the 661 was not enough to sway me. If the 659 was not available at the time of my purchase and only the 661 was, I would have gone for the 661.

I marvel at the quality, features and sound that comes from my Yammy and to know I spent very little in real $. It has to date been the best value in over 35 years of being a Audoholic.

The AVR will be fine.

I know what you mean about the TV; I replaced my 50" plasma after 6 months as it just seemed too small. Make sure that the extra 6'' is enough for you, I would go bigger since you are spending the money.

Do you really need the 'more options?'
What is your speaker load and sensitivity as that would have an impact on the amp. On the other hand, if you don't listen to loud to very loud sources, you should be fine.

It all depends on what your needs are. I bought the 661 because I wanted HDMI for uncompressed audio from my PS 3, and it's GREAT for that. The amplifier section wasn't all that important to me as I have an Acurus 200x3. For $400, it's hard to beat. But I am already thinking about upgrading to an Onkyo 705 as I would like to have DTS-MA and I really want the ability to set separate crossover points.

Like I said, it all depends on what you want to do.

Well what I need is a 7-Channel.

My surround is 5-Speakers and they can take 100W each then my front left and right speakers can take 80W.

Then My sub woofer is a 180W

I am going to end up getting the PS3 when next Grand Tourismo comes out! :D So I am going to go Blue Ray High Def. I don't really need or want to go Optical BUT I do want Digital Coax.

:D
