The couch would be 14’ away, the pub table is behind the couch and is 20-25’ away from LCR speakers. Dart board is 37’ away. I listen both mellow to comfortable loud. Not extremely loud. Ok, maybe once in awhile when its get the Led Zep out or going up country with canned heat.
If you sit 14' away from the LCR speakers, the Onkyo could in fact sound a little thinner at high volume, say near reference level. When you listen at "comfortably loud" level, what would be the volume position?

About 70 on the volume dial with 100 being maximum.

If you happen to like that particular Carver, go for it. If you are keen on transparency/accuracy, the MCA 325 would be my choice, I would bet you 5 to 1 in a properly set up blind test you cannot tell it apart from the STR or any amps that are design to be transparent. If you it sounds bore in your room with those Focals, try EQ to suit your taste.

For price, you can't beat the QSC DCA and Crown XLS. Verdinut said the fan in the DCA was quiet, but I suspect if you sit close enough, listening at low level in a very quiet room, you may hear it.

Impedance dip or not, it depends mostly on your sitting distance and spl you listen to. As I mentioned, I am quite happy with my 5 watt amp diving the 1028 Be, that has similar power requirement to the Kanta's.
I’m gonna experiment with the EQ in Onkyo equalizer settings.

Then I think for your need, a power amp rated at least 200/350 WPC, 8/4 ohms will help somewhat, especially for two channel music without using a subwoofer.

I still have the demo Anthem mca325. Been listening to records for 2 hours and starting to warm up to it. Going to try the EQ in onkyo, to dial down some high frequencies.

Curious what's that room like for reflections and such? Huge room it sounds like, too especially when playing darts!

I would send a picture, but I get a message that says the uploaded file is to large for the server to process

I had that same problem on my phone you can in the camera settings change the quality of the picture from a high def say 1960×1480 just throwing out an example # to 720 × 560 you get the drift. When I lowered the setting on the camera I could load up the new pics no problem. Probably the higher definition was just too much data to upload.

Try that with your phone camera when I needed help with some issues in my room sending them pics of the room and measurements really helped them give me the best feedback. So it helps a lot

I’ve been trying to downsize photo but still won’t work. I’m thinking. I will try again

Try setting the phone camera to a lower resolution first before taking another shot.

I tried. Still working on it. I want to play music now but wife is sleeping. I need to buy her ear muff protection.

Or use a computer and resize the photo. Easy on a pc (file explorer/paint via edit), don't know about an apple.

Might be shrunk a bit much :) I usually go for 25-35% shrink. Good looking room!

If you're listening loudly enough to clip the AVR, eq won't solve the problem. That's a sizable room, so I would bet you could easily require more dynamic power than the Onk has on tap.

Yeah I was gonna say that that is a big sized room mine is as well and that's why I need amps to handle it just the avr alone doesn't cut it in that big ol space I got
