You can't answer this Mark.;)

So my across the street neighbor is this young kid who makes a lot of money as a commercial diver. He has been here since this neighbor was built 3 years ago and is seldom in town. He seems to be a nice kid and he uses a lawn company to care for his yard so it always looks good. His house is really nice and he drives a nice car. His has a lot of young friends that come over and they take his top of the line MasterCraft SKI boat out on most weekends. When he has guest, they park in front of my house which I am totally fine with. They don't throw trash in my yard or even step in my yard. They quietly go away later in the day.

Well about 3 months ago he let two people move in with him. These two seem to be of lower class than the rest of the neighborhood. One drives an 80's Chevy Blazer and the other has an old Chrysler that has been wrecked and one door is black and the rest of the car is silver. It's just the kind that you hope never moves next to you.

Last weekend the Blazer was parked in front of my house. It didn't bother me at first as a figured they would quickly move it once some of their friends left. Today marks 5 days that this thing has been in front of my house. I have knocked on their door several times so I could ask them if they could move it but no one will answer the door. I am very fristrated with them at this point.

I called one of my best friend who happens to be the Police Chief of the city I am in and asked if there was anything else I could do. He stated that it was legally parked so I either had to deal with it or make it where it is not legally parked. I said please give me more detail. He stated that if it had flat tires he could have it towed.

I thought about this overnight and I was even more frustrated when I looked out my window this morning and it was still there. I called my buddy and asked if he could run the plates before I took the drastic measures. He called me back a few minutes later and said the owner has an outstanding warrant for his arrest and he would "take care" of the car. I am not sure what happened but the car was gone when I came home for lunch.

Now I kind of feel bad. I really didn't want to get the guy arrested if that's what happened but I didn't know what else to do.

If you were really the DAWG you would have waited outside his door for him to come out and then maced him with an oversized pepper spray canister that you keep in a leg holster.

Why does this make you a jerk? Seems to me that you took reasonable steps. If I had an outstanding warrant on me, I'd be a little more careful where I parked my car. I think you provided a community service.

Nah, not a jerk. Just a guy that wants his house to look as good as it can. It's not your fault that the guy had a warrant out, if he didn't there would have been nothing to worry about. Anyway they may have just towed the car in hopes that he'll come looking for it and they'll get him then.

at least you didn't flatten his tires... so no, you aren't a jerk. Had they just answered the door, all of this could have been avoided.

Greg,

This doesn't make you a jerk. (Other things maybe but not this:D) How were you to know? I do find it funny that him not answering the door (thinking it might be the police looking for him) is what gets him caught.:D Just don't say anything to your neighbors about it. You don't need this coming back on you.

Don't worry about it,:)

When I asked my Police buddy what he would do it was kind of funny. He said he would break out all the windows and then leave a note on the car that said "I noticed all your windows got broken out, it's weird, the same thing happened to the last 2 cars that parked here". He was dead serious too.

A jerk would have flattened his tires even though it was gonna be towed anyway.

Maybe you just put the guy on the fast track to getting all this sorted out.

You never know.

BTW, when I get out ...

Not a jerk. Reasonable and legal steps were taken. You did the police a favor and yourself a favor.

It's not your fault he has outstanding warrants. Why would a Diver have a house in DFW though? Makes no sense to me.

Hey Greg,

I don't think you were a jerk either. You just had the benefit of knowing someone who could do something about it.

I would just not say anything to your neighbors and just see what happens.

Maybe they had a warrant out for their arrest for breaking into homes that don't belong to them and squatting, maybe you did your neighbor a favor too. You are definitely not a jerk, justice was served.;)

Interesting, because in my town there is a limit on how long any car can be legally parked in the same spot. Sure it is not enforced by the cops unless someone complains. But if someone does call it in they first ticket it then if it is still there after some unknown (by me) length of time they will tow it.

Report it as an abandoned vehicle!;)

Maybe not all his windows have to be broken out ... ya know? ;)
When did Alex get soft? (Oh...that's asking for trouble...)

BTW, Greg - totally not a jerk. You waited about 4.5 days longer than I would have. :D

A strange car that hasn't moved in five days is bound to draw some interest from the police. It might have been stolen and abandoned. (you can tell I live in Jersey.) So, they ran the plates and there was a warrant for the owner. How is this your fault?
