STP and Alice in Chains are both incredible.

Also, I'll vouch that the Alice in Chains Unplugged CD is one of my very favorites. The DVD's a great watch as well.

Right, but do you think they are similar? If so, why? ;);)

I believe they are both Seattle based bands along with Nirvana, Candlebox, and Pearl Jam. Some one correct me if I'm wrong.

Might be the reason.

Candlebox is another group that may be of interest to you Phil.
I've got a couple of their CDs they also have a similar sound although from what I've read they didn't much like being grouped with other bands with that "Seattle sound".

You know I was just thinking the Alice In Chains sound also resembles that of Pearl Jam in many ways. It is amazing that they are from the same area. I guess then, that is why their sound is so similar. Thanks for that tid bit of inso my friend. Happy Easter to you. ;);)

I never considered Candle Box a grunge band (because they weren't). They were simply a talented group of musicians that happen to also be from Seattle. Thanks to Madonna's Maverick label for signing them.

Peter Klett is an incredible guitarist. I believe Red Light is his current label.

Mudhoney would be another band to check out from that Seattle scene

Lots of great bands (and offshoots/side projects) listed in this thread. Some others to try:

Green River (Jeff Ament & Stone Gossard - now Pearl Jam, Mark Arm - now Mudhoney)
Malfunkshun (Regan Hagar, Andrew Wood (deceased) - former roommate of Chris Cornell)
Mother Love Bone (Ament & Gossard, Wood)
Temple of the Dog (one-off tribute album to Andrew Wood, essential what would become Pearl Jam, plus Chris Cornell)
Satchel (Shawn Smith, Regan Hagar)
Pigeonhed (Shawn Smith, Steve Fisk)
Three Fish (Ament side project)
Brad (Regan Hagar, Shawn Smith, Gossard)

Also worth checking out is Mind Funk - their second album, Dropped, is amazing. Really dark.

It's also worth catching this (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105415/) for a performance by AIC, appearances by Pearl Jam members, a very funny cameo from Chris Cornell, and lots of subtle references to obscure Seattle bands (keep an eye on the graffiti).

You know, I was thinking that in some ways Alice In Chains reminds me a lot of STP. I can't really put my finger on it, but for some reason these two have similar styles. I think it is the way the Stayley belts out the vocals. Anyone else here agree that they are a lot alike? If so, why do you believe so?

Cheers,

Phil
I agree, he sounds a lot like Scott Weiland or vice versa... Another duo I have a hard time telling apart are Eddie Vedder & Chris Cornell. :D

PS: *Hungry Strike by Temple of the dog is a great example... Bill :)

Oh, I am very aware of them. In fact, heard on the radio they have a new album out now and are currently touring. Silent Lucidity was amazing and still one of my favs. I want to check out the new album when I find the time. Heck, I may just go buy it you never know. ;);) Appreciate the info.

Metallica rocks! You and the wife will surely enjoy. Not too sure about the newest member, but he is a good bass player. I think he played for Ozzie at one time or another. You both are lucky to get to see them. Lars is one of my favorite drummers. Just absolutely amazing. However, Neil Peart is also amazing and down right fantastic! Lots of talent there too. Be sure to have fun when you go and take some pics. We all would like to see them. ;);)

LOL......not really sure. I suppose they do. Now video recorders would be a problem for sure. Oh well, if you can take some shots that would be great. Maybe as you are going in and when you are leaving would do. Of course, we will need your thoughts on how it went as well. :):D:)

STP is from California. My buddy went to school with them up at UC Davis, so definitely not a Seattle band, even though they benefitted from the whole grunge scene. I don't know where they were actually based out of when they hit it big though; LA I thought.

I think they sound alike in styles. Style wise, mainly the first album Core compared to Dirt and Facelift (which is also an excellent album; Man in the Box is a favorite song of mine). Core is my favorite from STP, because it is the most honest and heaviest IMO.

I have all of Godsmack's stuff, but their tours don't really bring them to our area for some reason, so I haven't had a chance to see them.

Thanks once again John for the info. Both STP and Godsmack are great bands and at times have a similar sound. Plush is one of my favorite songs by STP. Likewise, my favorite Godsmack song is Running Blind. Both have many songs I like, but these two stand out imho. Hope all is well.

The SACD "Other Side" by Godsmack is one that I use to test gear and multichannel setups with! It is EXCELLENT. So good, that I am going to go listen to it right now while I study (big presentation on the new software this week).

John, I have that one on CD. I agree in that it is just awesome. Listen to it all the time. Oh btw, good luck to you on your presentation. I assume your presentation has something to do with CAD? Am I right? ;);)
