Adding sub to JBL L110

I have Yamaha integrated amp and L110 speakers and I was told I could add a sub. My amp has 4 speaker outputs and I got a powered 400W sub. I connected sub to main speaker outputs and L110 to secondary outputs and I fooled with the sub volume and low-pass filter and barely got any sound.
Is there something I am doing wrong?
The sub doesn't need to be powered by the amp because it is powered, correct?

Could be expectations exceed reality. Are the outputs on your integrated amp line level or pre-outs? Model numbers of all gear usually help.

You likely have an amp you can't add a sub to, unless the sub has speaker level inputs and most don't. Most integrated amps are not really compatible with subs.

I have Yamaha AX-596 amp with outputs for 2 pr of speakers. There's no way to use sub with this amp? Monoprice SW12 400 watt sub.
I have Logitech 2.1 PC speakers (400W sub) and the bass is very defined and nice and wish I had audio system like that.

In that case you can add a sub.

You need to remove the jumpers on the back and don't loose them.

Now, you need two Y-connectors.

Now plug the four male ends into the female RCAs you removed the the jumpers from.

Now take a dual RCA lead long enough to reach from your amp to the sub.

Plug the left RCA into the left female RCA plug on the sub and the right to the right.

You can then set the the crossover point and the sub volume on the sub controls.

The limitation you can't get round is that the sub will handle the bass below crossover, but your main speakers will not be crossed over and run full range.
