That's them, thanks. They where great sounding speakers.
They're from the Teledyne era. The Classic series began production just as Teledyne Acoustic Research was purchased by Jensen, then they ended the production of truly high end speakers. When Jensen got them they started to make far inferior products. They borrowed the concepts of the AR9 for their floorstanders, but the part selection was SO-SO and the implementation proved to be less than reliable.

Less than a decade later the Acoustic Research brand was all but dead and Audiovox aquired Recoton (the parent company of Jensen and Acoustic Research).

Ironically Audiovox now owns Klipsch Holdings which include Energy and Mirage.

Hello Seth, I recently purchased a pair of AR classic 26 speakers. I'm building a system around them, any suggestion for power requirements . I'm considering the rouge Sphinx or possibly a friends well kept audio research pre and phono amp. I would still need a power amp, I'm thinking solid state. Suggestions? Thanks

Hello Seth, very interesting reading all of your great information. I have a pair of the AR Classic Model 18's. In fact they look identical to the ones in the pictures you posted back in 2010. I love them but have converted to a whole house Sonos wireless system and don't really need these anymore. Any idea what they may be worth. They are in very good condition and sound great. Thank you so much for any info. Greatly appreciated.

Help Seth!!!!
I'm an old tinker with Acoustic Research questions having read Seth's posting of the AR 26 document.

Trying to get it to talk to a Marantz 6100 which I repaired including new RCA plug setup.
However my AR 26s questions are the following:
the four speaker lugs..... are the top two the woofer connects and the bottom two tweeter connects????

Also, one has one wire per lug.... the other has a loosey goosey connect with no wire when I pop the cover off (one connection has two wires going to it. The other speaker has one wire per connection.... I can attach pics later if necessary.
What don't I know?????

Hoping for help since no sweet sounds yet,
