Acapella speakers intrigue me...

You'll see, and hear, alot of this type of art at shows and such. This is a real cool hobby to be a part of most of the time and these are examples of why. I'd love to hear them. Great link :)

Ahhh, luckily those don't appeal to me. Now I can divert more money to something that is more about sound and less about looks...Monster cable.

The more I look at these... I don't even know what they are? That's just bizarre!
Simply: it appears to be a single driver full range speaker that is using a massive horn to counteract the inherent weak weak LF bass output of the driver. So, by using a massive(REALLY MASSIVE) horn assembly, he probably is obtaining comparable output in deep LF from that small driver, as compared to a conventional 12" woofer in a well designed bass alignment. Being a single driver full range; it will have poor off axis performance and substantial break up modes in it's passband.

So in other words... it's all hat, not cattle? It seems like an awful lot of "packaging."

from the designer...33 years ago I decided to build a big horn system. Constructed in the dorm library over Christmas break, the result was dubbed The Claw, a straight exponential horn 9 feet long with a 42 Hz expansion curve and a 50 sq ft mouth. We mounted a JBL LE15A woofer in the throat and used a JBL 375 compression driver and horn for about 500 Hz on up.

I posted this link before here at Audioholics. This is totally insane.

While it looks really awesome; I'm afraid that's the extent of it. It can not produce maximum sound quality, nor near it, based on what I can guess about the polar radiation patterns and resonance characteristics, based on the visible physical attributes. I'm sure it's pretty clear sounding and can hit 140+ dB full range. :)

Interestingly, I don't see room treatements, even.

Anybody here understand the language?
I don't, but Google almost does.

Do a Google search on "Montaža ostalih elemenata horni je potrajala" (some text from the article) and then select the "Translate this page" option. (Select this link for a direct path to the translated page.)

There might be a way to translate directly from the page, but I either don't know it or can't remember it.

Anything by Acapella. I want to own these some day...
http://www.acapella.de/german/ (check out the Campanile... the highest end models are just amazing. They're art... not speakers.[emphasis added]
Like most "art" these days, one person's art is another person's garbage. I think those are ugly, and would not want them unless they sounded better than everything else in and below their price range. Even then, I would not like it. Maybe they could be hidden behind an acoustically transparent curtain...

I think a lot of the high end is really about looks, and has nothing whatever to do with actual sound performance. Some things look impressive (even if ugly), and therefore many people like it, regardless of how it really sounds. I will presently refrain from giving any examples of what I mean, as I do not wish to engage in a nasty discussion of overpriced garbage at the moment. Suffice it to say, however much some people say it is all about the sound, they decide what to hear based upon other considerations. And they virtually never listen blind with level matched equipment, so they have not eliminated non-sound considerations from their decisions of what is "better".

Hey Welcome! No apologies!~ We were all newbies at some point. I still think it's just cool as hell to see speakers so uncoventional. You just always think of a rectangular box, then you see something like the Acapelas and they just kinda blow you away.

Wouldn't mind listening to this setup just to hear what it sounds like. Don't think I wanna chew up the backyard just to mount some horns into my house. Just another way for the ants to get in. :D
