Yeah... I think they're $300 better. I don't think I'd ever buy an Klipsch sub over an SVS one.

Take a HARD look at the Rythmiks.. very nice for around $500!!

Rythmik FV12 - vented HT sub

Myself and others (ADTG) bought the BicAmerica Acoustech PL-200, at $279, and honestly you can NOT beat it for that PRICE anywhere - it is tight, totally awesome for the $$'s.

Check w/ Eric Winston at Sound Distributors dot com. He has excellent pricing.

I am telling you it sucks....I had a POS pioneer 100 watt sub 8" and blew away the 311 klipsch sub....the pioneer was 149.00. Klipsch makes terrible subs man!!

I may be able to stretch my sub budget to 800 but even then it doesn't seem enough. Since the room his pretty open with no walls I need that will cover this area. Not sure if the svs SB12 will do that.

That I agree on when the sub is weak, but if you have the room for it you can justify the external amp. I probally should have gotten room measurments and what his listening tastes are...I listen at -4 to 0DB (reference). Lot of people say klipsch speakers are bright....have you ever heard them in a treated room?? A LOT of people set them up so the horn is directly at the ears and not crossed at the rear of MLP....I guess it just depends on the room because I have never had ear fatigue from them but my room is treated.

I am NOT saying kilpsch are the best...but are good at there price point.

Bottom-line: There are a lot of great suggestions in here and shows how eager people are on this forum to help and that is what matters.

Can't tell you if they will help with your floorplan, but I can tell you (to my ear) they absolutely kill the Klipsch RF 82 and below for music. For strictly HT (movies/TV) the Klipsch are nice, but music at decent volume it's what I would imagine having chopsticks rammed in your ears would feel like. :eek:

All the of Klispch speakers (other than the RB81 and 61) are rear ported and IMO would not work well with that placement.

Try and take a look or read reviews for the PSB Image T6- largish front ported, efficient with the bonus of being 6 ohm (just a little more oomph from your AVR) and they would be much better for music than Klipsch.

As for a sub get the best you can afford that fits your size and budget requirements.

Spend more on the sub than on the front L/R.

I still say at least a 15" for now.....I know you want it all at once but you will slowly add to it...if you get in a rush you may be dergrading the system. I much rather have 1 Great sub than 2 crappy ones. If you can't get 2 subs now get a good one and another good one later. SVS are great subs not saying it is crappy by any means LOL!! Only crappy subs mentioned here the klipsch subs abd I love "Most" klipsch products.

Agreed, but I can say I have had RF-82II against the wall almost (2-3") and there was no diference in sound when I had them 15"....with the RF-7II I had to have them at least 8" away...have them about 18" now but the RF-82II made no to little difference.....NOT saying this is true with other speakers just these that I have owned, cant say with others that I have not owned. Totally agree with the love hate of kliposh but positioning klipshe make the difference between ear bleeding and absoulute "flawless" Audio INMHO or as good as klipsch can be LOL!!...a few inches does matter.

Ok, it's clear that I underestimated what a quality sub can do & how much they cost. I will most likely get a the best ported svs I can afford. May get a second one down the line. Now for fronts, is going to be Klipsch rf-62 or deft techs 8060's. Any advice on this for an open floor plan? I get a lot of feedback on the Klipsch but not much on the deft tehs. Not many reviews on them as well.:confused:

[/QUOTE]I dont know much about deft techs 8060's but my buddy has some and they sound good.....I would get what sounds best to YOU not what someone else say is better....I like klipsch some hate them....you may love them or you you may hate them....let your ears decide....GREAT choice on the sub!:D

The main thing is to find out the sound that you can live with -
re-packing tower speakers is not fun. The Definitive should be
more sensitive than the B&W. The Kilipsch will have more of a
central sound - the Definitive more spacious.

Very good point...different speakers have different goods and bad.

They sound good to me but I can't really compare them to Klipsch because I haven't heard Klipsch in that environment. Deft techs are more aestheticly pleasing but also more expensive. The built in subs are ok but a separate sub purchase would be needed. If someone has heard them in a home environment I would appreciate their take on them.

Then save your money and do without a sub. Have you ever heard the expression "as noticable as a fart in a hurricane"? Subwoofers have to move enough air to minutely alter the pressure in the room to give you deep visceral bass.

BTW where are you in SoCal?

That room looks like a tough nut to crack. I have suckout issues with my stairwells leading down and up from my room. I couldn't imagine fighting all the openings that you have. I really think it be best to take a step back and quit throwing money at the AV gear thinking it will sound better.

Maybe if a whole other dedicated room isn't an option, you could meet with a general contractor about closing off some of those openings or rearranging the way your homes rooms lay out a bit. It would be worth exploring I think more so than investing more in AV gear.

It may very well be a better bang for your buck to look for a home with an existing room that is more conducive for listening in than modifying the one you have.
