Pretty much this local dealer has B&w 683, 684. Deft techs 8040,8060 & Klipsch rf-62, rf-82. Out of all those are the Klipsch the best bet?

Actually I do have them set to large with the crossover at 60hz. The b&w's with no sub is a no go, doesn't matter the room layout. I am not impressed at at, but I was limited to just hearing those and the deft techs 8060. I live in SoCal & am having issues finding a Klipsch dealer that has the 62 or 82 on the floor. Went to Paul's tv but the speakers were out in the open with people walking around this huge sales area. Didn't sound good, heard the 62's. Not sure if it was the speakers or where they were.
Hope noone hear gets mad or if this is against the rules but maybe go to the klipsch forum and try to see if there is somone local you can hear at a house....I am sure there is somone.

Also make sure under Audyssey settings you have it on Audyssey NOT audyssey flat....flat is better for music. I have notice with Audyssey curve I get a much better bass response.

Yes the II series. They are pretty big speakers. Especially compare to what I have now, but like I said before its getting down to crunch time. Running out of options.

Will do. To be completely honest before I purchase anything I did some research. I was pretty set on Klipsch but I had a few issues. I could not listen to them at any local store, they are more expensive then my original budget, bigger overall (wife doesn't like that) and sales guy after sales guy told me they were bright speakers. After endless hours & more $, and back right where I started. What sub or subs do you recommend. I saw the sw-112 paired with 62's and the sw-310 with the 82's.

Wow, that's good to know. I read some reviews on amazon claiming their subs were great. What do you recommend from elemental with the 82's.

Don't worry about matching up a sub with the speakers. What budget do you want to stick to on the sub?

Around 600. What should I be looking for in a quality sub & what companies make good ones?

I agree with not getting a Klipsch sub. They make a decent sub, but a horrible value. Look at SVS, HSU and ED for subs. Get the best you can from any of those companies. Buying online will yield a much better sub for far less money. There are lots of options, but I'm assuming you're done with being overwhelmed. ;)

Honestly, based on your 80/20 use habits, I wouldn't think you'll gain much by getting the 82's. The 62's have the exact same high frequency driver and only give up 1 db in sensitivity. The speakers are smaller and with a sub, I doubt you could ever tell a difference. The extra couple hundred bucks should go towards a sub. I wish I could tell you to apply it to the RC64 center, but I think its just too much where your budget is. The 62 will work just fine.

Something else to consider, you don't necessarily HAVE to use the reference line for surrounds. Using the synergy line (say the s20) will also save some coin for very little change in performance. BTW, I would never recommend anything but the reference for the mains and center, but you'll never tell the difference from your surrounds.

A pair of 62's, RC62, and S20's will be right around 2 grand. Spend the rest on a sub.

I wasn't SUPER impressed with the BWs you have, but then again, I personally don't love their highest end stuff. I actually really like the Klipsch stuff. It cracks me up to hear sales guys call the Klipsch's "Bright".. They can be for sure, but the reference line is much more refined than you might think. Some of the brightness is predisposed.

Like jinkjukieuua points out, the bws could work in your room, they're a fine speaker, but I do think you would need to add some wattage... Don't worry about an external amp for the Klipsch stuff, you won't need it. They'll probably never call for more than just a handful of watts.

Agree, I have the RC-64II and it is amazing...in a larger room a amp does help with the sound, I gained a lot of detail...my room is 28' X 28' and it actually made a pretty big difference....but I agree with the 62's if the save money goes towards a sub...but disaggree on the surrounds "S20" are good....don't get me wrong, I have them on my upstairs system but they are nowhere near as detailed as the RB-61II but again my room is heavily treated wich does help.

I Really appriciate all the information I have received in this forum. For me this is a big purchase even tho I know that many here dont consider a 3k budget much for a ht system. But big or small budget I just really want make a good decision and not feel pressured into buying something I'm not sure about. This has been a big learning experience for me and I feel more confident about my decision now. THANK YOU ALL!

Every single claim you make is highly subjective. Adding wattage to a system where a speaker will "almost" never require it won't magically add detail. The sensitivity and impedance curve of the RC64 and RF7II just don't need the extra power. Both of those speakers are capable of extreme dynamic output with any AVR.

Agreed, the RB-62 is a MUCH better speaker than the S20. You just won't be able to tell a difference when used for surround duty. If there was an improvement, it would be minor- treated room or not. If a lot of multi-channel music were being listened to, I'd steer back toward the reference line. Given the budget, the money is much better spent elsewhere.
