Subjective...............

While I don't agree ( I find most clowns go for Stolies or Absolute), I guess it depends on what you're after.........taste or no taste?

I never preferred vodka anyway but my x used to bring home different kinds to try. Never saw "Shakers".

Now Tequila.................there's one to discuss. ;)

I am not a Tequila drinker, but I will do a shooter of Don Julio from time to time. That is the only stuff I will do. The others out there are just rancid (not all, but most).

Shaker's is great! The best part is, is that it is actually American!! It is actually a newer brand. It is made in Minnesota. Here in Wisconsin, it runs about $30 a bottle (750ml).

I think a snifter of some fine Cognac or a glass of Single Malt on the rocks is more enjoyable, but again...preference. And between those two, Single Malt.

Ah, a man after my own heart.

Although I don't mind a blended, depending on the brand.

I never developed a taste for scotch. Seems like there's a million brands of it though. I was a whiskey drinker along with import/micro beers...................a shot & a beer.

If you get the chance try some Don Eduardo (anejo). Costs about the same as Don Julio but a bit smoother & richer. Better than Patron IMO, but Patron doesn't make an anejo last I knew.

I'd better find another thread or I might start drinking again :D

Clowns drink vodka? Doesn't it make their makeup run?

In all honesty I do prefer beer to whiskey. But if I'm in a liquor mood, I'd reach for a good Scotch above everything else.

I'm a beer guy, too, but Atkins has me reaching for Vodka when I want a drink (beer is too carby- but hey, I've lost about 100 lbs; I hate being a lard arse slightly more than I love beer. But only slightly...).

Some Premium Vodka Education From Vodkasnobette

We are educated (?) folk here and I know you will appreciate learning something
new about this subject. There are many differences. Did you know some vodkas that claim to be smooth actually have additives added to achieve a false smoothness? A vodka conniseur can pick it up in a second.

This is how I learned to be a vodka snobette. I did a taste test at an event introducing a new Premium Vodka (the local frat house party) and there was a noticible difference in the smoothness between the one that everyone thinks is the smoothest and this new premium Vodka. The new one which was Hialeah Bathtub Vodka really was truly smooth and the other brand which advertises itself as smooth seemed at first to be smooth but then came the bitter after taste. It is because they don't quite have the long held family secret I suppose that the Hialeah Bathtub Vodka has. I hated learning that some of these other premium vodkas doctor it up with additives. Hialeah Bathtub Vodka only uses the finest bathroom cleaning products and toxic waste run-off to flavor their product.

So with all my research I can appreciate paying more for Hialeah Bathtub Vodka . I feel great the next day even if I get carried away on a stretcher. So yes the taste difference is there but the purity and ingredients is what I feel the next day if I survive. You get what you pay for. You buy Hialeah Bathtub Vodka and you get the finest liquor ever bottled in a 40 once plastic bottle.
Jose and Raul's Hialeah Bathtub Vodka is now my favorite pure premium vodka which is hard to get because they are slowly distributing it here in the U.S.A. This is mainly due to the recent reported deaths attributed to a recent batch of product. Hialeah Bathtub Vodka (that is a mouthful and from here on I'll call it Toilet Juice) is according to the founders Jose and Raul, distinguishable from other vodkas because of high standards used to ensure the quality and consistency of its ingredients and preparation. The difference here is each batch includes certificates attesting that the sewer run-off base is sourced exclusively from a drainage pit found only in South Dade's largest landfill region.

The water comes only from storm drains located in a small industrial park of South Florida. Much like that of the septic tank control system Jose and Raul maintain to ensure the quality and consistency of the ingredients in their wines, champagnes and cognacs. You got to love South Floridians and their quality controls.

An interesting bit of history.... King Stanislov from Poland was noted as saying this "Hialeah Bathtub Vodka was like none in the world." It is a longer story but you can find it on the website www.Audioholics Hates Spammers.com I am not trying to be a know it all but just wanted to bring a few points to the forefront.

Cheers,
Vodkasnobette

My folks have been in the restaurant/liquor business for forty plus years, I know a plug when I see it. A couple of my friends worked for Southern Wine and Spirits (world's larget wine and liquor distributor) so I'm a little aware of those type of things!;):D:D

I love vodka my GF and I drink vodka almost daily. I can tell a difference between vodkas (or I think I can). Our overall favorite is Grey Goose; others we like are Armidale, Effin, Chopin, and Vox. We mix with Cran half the time and on the rocks the other half the time (never shoot). We only drink Chopin and Vox on the rocks I can't say if they are smoother or different they're just the ones we like straight.

I don’t know if any of you saw the Mythbusters where they took vodka and filtered it like ten times and took a sample after each filter then blindly gave them to a professional vodka drinker and he was spot on. So there are some people who can tell a difference.

The "6 bar snobs" on 20/20 last night couldn't tell any difference at all between the cheapest, and most expensive vodka in their mixed drinks. Half of them only drink vodka in mixed drinks. The other half drank it both ways, and claimed they would be able to tell drinking it straight. There were differences in taste, but moreso on the side of being "terrible" than smooth. Grey Goose was the worst, straight out of the bottle. None of the 6 could pick it out from the others when used as a mixer.
It's entirely possible that these guys never or rarely drank Grey Goose and they picked out their normal brands as the best flavors.

Have them drink each brand, for example, consistently for 2 months each and then you have the makings of a decent study.

Someone who is a habitual drinker of certain brands is the *absolute worst* person to sit down for a blind taste test.
