Medicare is going broke and that's the program they're basing the new "reformed" health care on. Now there's a plan.

I find it so exasperating so few are willing to fix the problem at its core, which is the massive costs both in premiums and defensive medical practices due to "malpractice lawsuit industry". Until this country has true tort reform, nothing is going to change and we will continue to bury ourselves with double-digit medial insurance inflation.

How can someone live in a country with tax-paid health care. Oh wait, I do.

Stop your ****ing complaining and move if you don't like it. Can the Moderators maybe keep tabs on threads like this? Maybe check in once and a while?

I'm all for government controlled health care!...

As soon as the government controlled U.S. Mail can deliver my mail to my house 30 days in a row, without my neighbor getting my mail or vice-versa.

The U.S. Government and it's employees have to walk before they can run.

Yo Sheep, something caught in your wool? I thought the "steam Vent" was for all topics. What exactly would you have a moderator do about this? Can't we all just get alon....I mean, ***** at each other?
I love your "push button, recieve bacon" picture, now that is funny.

Sheep,

Maybe the mods can do something about the soon-to-go-broke U.S. Medicare and Medicaid systems. And complaining? We'll have to talk about that to all the veterans that now have Hep B and C and HIV thanks to all the shoddy U.S. government medical care they've gotten a VA hospitals. Yeah...the governmental approach is the way to go, alright. That's why you find zillions of medically needy people streaming to Canada for care. ;)

You've complained before about these political threads. If you really don't like them...well, we won't make you read them.

So someone fill me in, what does this bill mean for the common uninsured American?

Also Dougg, most European countries have public health care, and are considered far superior to what America has to offer.

Canada is ranked 17th in the world for average # of healthy years lived, and the UK is ranked 20th. The united states is 22nd. Also, Canada has an average life expectancy of 80.18 years (11th) while the US is 77.71 years (35th)(at birth). All stats are picked from nationmaster.com and were updated in 2006.

Pro tip: Canada has free health care for all AND.....our banks aren't broken. The choice is clear.

Game. Set. Match.

P.S. Sadly, medical MJ is America's largest cash crop. That's not the problem in California.

Who considers European health care systems superior to the U.S? Sources, please. The U.S. has been blamed for causing a "brain drain", bringing the world's best doctors to our shores. We also have the best (and most) diagnostic equipment in the world. We have the finest and most $$ endowed hospitals and med schools in the world. Those that can afford it, come here to be treated or educated.

Years lived?...check the diet. We lead the world in Type II diabetes, diet-related heart disease, environmentally caused cancers, etc. To blame it on the "health care system" is a bit miopic. Shock, the only issue that has legitimacy regarding U.S. healthcare is the COST of our system. It has been terribly high for too many years. My wife was working on HC cost containment issues before we met and married...27 years ago! It's a big honkin' gorilla who got into our tent...and must be dealth with. And as has been mentioned before, Tort Reform is a BIG deal and must be passed as a starting point. (One thing you'll also not find in Canada/Europe are humongous lawsuit payoffs for malpractice, or as many malpractice suits, or as many attorneys........)

EDIT: Relating to tort reform...some types of physicians (e.g. OB/GYN's) are finding their malpractice insurance so burdensome, that we're losing them to other fields. I haven't verified this...maybe an MD will chime in, but I believe that malpractice insurance premiums to be in the neighborhood of $75,000/year for the average internist/family practitioner. At least that's what I understood several years ago. That's pretty outrageous.

The only reason you have a "brain drain" is because your system allows people to make money hand over fist. It less of a "brain drain" and more of a "wallet increaser."

Also it's pretty simple to go to that site, with government references, and see that your claims aren't fact.

I will give you one of them though, your system costs far too much for the treatment you get.

It's always the same people starting them, and the same people keeping them running in circles. How productive would a thread in the speakers section be if the members never agreed on speakers?... wait, that is fairly consistent with what goes one here. Bad example. You get my point. This thread is going no where. No matter how many times you bash the keyboard you're not going to change anything, not from here. Give it up, post something that has a bit of a positive spin on it. Seriously, I'm not the person that should be pointing this out.

Canada has a surplus of bacon, we dispense it from wall units.

Free? No one pays for it? Right. Uh, what's your tax rate up there? ;)
Don't you live in Oregon? That state with no tax? What do you have to complain about if you see some taxation? Taxation puts hair on your chest and back, which makes water slides extremely boring.

Well last year i paid exactly 0 dollars in income tax (since I received it all back), and $438 dollars in EI and CPP. I mean everyone chips in to help those in need. Next time you see someone sick and in a gutter make sure you just walk by them, or give them a sharp kick in the nuts.

How much is one doctors visit again?
