You could check NASA's site for this: http://history.nasa.gov/stsnixon.htm

I still remember this.
I have read that. Again, Nixon gave the go ahead, and a nice speech at the "launching" of the program. And, yes - he "created" the shuttle program in a small way, but not with nearly the level of sustained involvement and initiative that Gore showed in the development of the internet.

One can decide how much credit Gore deserves for all of this.

But we can agree that he never claimed to have "invented" the internet.

The internet was 'created' around 1969 although it was a DARPA research project and just a few nodes. The internet wasn't commercialized (ie fully available to the masses) until the late '90s.

Al Gore is often misquoted but what he meant was that he pushed for funding and support to help it grow and become the useful tool that it is today.
Al Gore accomplished a few more important things along the way.... Like getting this "big price" that made him even more famous.... and he made himself an even more wealthy man, much more wealthy man.... quite many million $ for himself.... an even more inconvenient truth :p

Right, he claimed to have taken the initiative to "create" the internet.
Much like Nixon did with the shuttle. Sinse you have read what I posted, then you must know that he did push for the shuttle, much like Gore pushed for the internet.
