Hello all, long time reader first time poster here.

I have just picked up a new set of fronts, turning my old ones into shiney new speaker stands, to me this isn't acceptable. What I'm looking to do is connect my old fronts and my old rears in series, however I am a little apprehensive of the additional load on my receiver. Does anyone have any experience with running speakers in this type of set-up? My receiver is the SA-HE75 from panasonic, definetly not top of the line but it's performed very well for me over the years and I'd hate to see it go out before it's time :(. Although I would then have a reason to get a new one........

My old fronts were a set of extremely old hitachi floor standers, that I had swapped some HiVi drivers in. Each speaker has around 85 watts of power handling.

Any advice would be helpful, thanks.

Good news and bad news.

Connecting your old fronts and old rears in series won't increase the load on your amp. It will actually increase the impedance seen by the amp which actually decreases the load.

But, odds are it'll sound like drek.

Now, connecting them in parallel WILL increase the load on your amp, possibly to the dangerous level. Odds are it too will sound like drek.
