Here is a list of possibilities to consider:

Outlaw 7700 --- 7 x 200 watts $2149

Outlaw 7900 --- 7 x 300 watts $ 3499

Sunfire TGA-7200 --- 7 x 200 watts, Can be had for $1999 right now --- good sale price

B & K Reference 200.7 --- 7x 200 watts --- $3000

This is a place to start. Although if $3000 is your price point and you wouldn't mind buying used--you could get into a much higher end amp the likes of Krell, Theta, Eathquake Cinenova, and Parasound (as a few) from Audiogon. Often you can find very lightly used demo units from dealers that are for all purposes new and would get you into the $5,500+ league of amp for around $3K.....

A stack of four 2x200 pro amps might be under $1500 (e.g. the Crown XLS 202). They are a bit wide, and often have fans, which I think would be their major downside.

A more minor issue is that they often don't take RCA inputs, and that would require more power outlets.

It would also requre 4 electrical outlets, and space for all 4 boxes! Just get a 1 box/1 outlet, 7 channel 200wpc amp & be done with it.

Going through all that just to save a few bucks doesn't make a bit of sense.

All the amps listed by Chopin Guy will do you just fine.

Makes sense if you are on a budget! The economy is a bit tight right now. Being unemployed, I look for budget options :)

Just because you have 3k you want to spend on amps, does not mean you NEED to spend 3k on amps.

Some people are not aware of all options, which is why I bring up pro amps.

My personal preference is a 6 channel amp and a 2 channel amp. This gives you the option to bi-amp your center speaker.

On the amps that have volume knobs on them, where do you set those knobs? Half-way?

Where do you set the knobs, I was advised to turn them all the way up, is that correct.
That is what I think to - more is better, right?:D

But why do these amps even have volume knobs on them?

We don't see volume knobs on most amps.

I have the Cinepro 3k6Mk1 with gain knobs but the top of the line amp does'nt have them. It comes in handy when I listen to music because I turn the center speaker to 12 o'clock, I have the center bi-amped 350x350 and after a few beers anything can blow.

Pfft. A stack of Yamaha Professional amplifiers is all you need. Tons of power, extreme high build quality, and perfectly transparent.

A stack of P2500S or P3500S amplifiers would be my recommendation. You get so much more for your money as compared to buying consumer amplifiers. Pro audio is HIGHLY competitive - and the better modern pro amps are just as high in fidelity as home hi-fi amps. I use the Yamahas in my main system now, and this is coming from someone that used to use McIntosh amplification exclusively in my main system.

Of course, if you are looking specifically for 'pretty looking' amps, then the Yamahas don't cut it. They have an industrial/commercial appearance.

$1600 gets you 8 channels, 250 watts into 8 Ohms, 310 into 4 Ohms. 4 x P2500S($400 each)

$2000 gets you 8 channels, 350 watts into 8 ohms, 450 into 4 Ohms. 4 x P3500S($500 each)

If you wanted to spend the full $3000, you could get 4 x P7000S. This is a true monster.

$2800 gets you 8 channels, 700 watts into 8 Ohms, 950 into 4 Ohms. 4 x P7000S($700 each)
