I've been doing some more research and it looks like the pre-out voltage of the 665 and 663(down to the 661 model) are the same(1.0v). So as long as you're using an amp with a 31-32db gain(Emotiva...) you're fine. Anything under that(Rotel...) you may want to look at a different pre-pro all together.
As Gene stated it's not just the Yamaha receivers, but most the manufacturers today are doing this.

Edit: Looking at the specs for the RX-Z7 and it only puts out the same 1.0v for the pre-outs. Hmmm. Maybe this could be the start of another thread on pre-out voltage.

The 665 is built cheap. They use integrated output devices, lame. They use a downgraded display, lame. The aesthetics are unappealing, lame.

RX-V663 is vastly superior.

A little OT, but while at BB I also looked at the Denon receivers while comparing the Yammies. Even those seemed whimpified compared to previous models. Mainly the flimsy heat sinkage (no extruded alumminum). Models AVR 590, 790 and 890.

Lol, well, after looking at those pictures, it all makes sense now. :D

I appreciate everyone's opinion on this matter. I think my Uncle Oscar, or better known by his celebrity name: Alex, may have jumped the gun on this issue. I told him in our first conversation of the day that I was in the process of contacting Tiger Direct for a return number to get my 663 that I ordered. I believe the problem was, and what eventually led to this post, was I told him about the fact that I did a quick Google search to see what people's opinions were on the differences between these receivers and never came up with a definitive/detailed answer. I was just looking in all the wrong places. Of course, my mistake, why didn't I consult this website? Gene's article, posted in the beginning of this thread would have been exactly what I was looking for. By the end of the day and 3 phone conversations later, it was burned in his mind that I was never going to release this 665 out of my kung fu grip and that I was fighting his advise like a 15 year old wanting a tongue ring :D Boy you should have heard his tone, I think I was getting underneath his skin.

Nevertheless, this wonderful thread was created and I hope everyone will rest easy tonight knowing that I am returning the 665. Unfortunately, Tiger Direct's business hours are Monday-Friday so I'll have to wait another day before contacting anybody to get a return number or to evensee if they have the 663.

Not a good move. Do more research son.

I'd still take the 663 over the 765.
Same power according to Yamaha's comparison chart, if you can rely on that.
But the 663 still has 2 lbs on the 765. That to me tells more than the chart.
The 765 does have 4 HDMIs as opposed to 2 on the 663, but that's the only thing that jumps out at me as far as big differences.

Well, I missed this last night, and hence kept waking up from nightmares of somebody having to live with a 665. Tonight I shall sleep like a baby.

That sounds pretty condescending. Ya know? Are you being condescending?

The research is the article linked in post #1. Let me suggest that you take your arguments to that thread. The real merits of these receivers was discussed there in much more detail.

This thread was about people backing me up. Now it's about congratulating Sean. ;)
