Watched War of the Rohirrim in Dolby Cinema. It is very well done, maybe as well laid out as any of the other LotR films. Animation is good, voice acting is good, but where it really impressed was the audio. There was some Atmos activity, but it was the bass that was really fun in the battle scenes. I may need to pick this one up.

Story is maybe a bit expected, but good. I think this may be where it stumbles and why it isn't doing well in the box office. It is like a standalone story, though it has ties with everything, it doesn't come across as something people were really looking to answer questions about. It almost mentions this itself in the beginning, which sets the wrong tone: "If you are looking for songs written about the heroes of this story, you will find none" or something to that effect. We liked it, but I doubt we will see a follow up to it.

The Wild Robot-4k Disc

PQ
-The animation for this movie was top notch. I didn't see it in theaters, and just going off of the trailer I wasn't too sure about this movie, but after watching it on 4k disc it is definitely one of the best animated movies of the year.

SQ- The movie does have a Dolby Atmos soundtrack. It's a pretty solid track. I wouldn't say it was "demo worthy" by any means. It does take place outside in the woods, so nature sounds are going on all over the place. There are some scenes in a space ship where the heights were activated. This wasn't a bass heavy movie, but the bass that was used, mixed nicely with everything else.

Overall- I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I didn't know anything going into it other than seeing the trailer months ago. I watched it with the family and they all loved it. There was nothing really new in the story dept, but how it was executed was great. Do yourself a favor and try to see this movie! I'm giving it a solid 9/10 for a rating. :)

I read an article that said WB fast tracked War of the Rohirrim in order to retain rights to the franchise. Apparently it was going to expire if they did not release a film, so they in fact don't care if it loses money, as the rights are far more lucrative.

I was kind of "meh" from the trailer. I will wait for it to hit streaming to check it out. Some other reviews I've seen gave middle of the road reviews. Some good parts to it, but overall it was a dud.

There are a lot of mixed reviews and it could be LotR sticklers who don't like it, since it is an offshoot inference, not an actual story from the appendices. Some of the reviews almost feel like review bombing, because it definitely isn't bad, it just isn't maybe what people expect from LotR.

I am a bit of a stickler too for LotR, but I was OK with this film. Knowing that it doesn't really quite fit anywhere. The Hobbit films were so much more of a departure than this story being a bit unnecessary.

Watched Terrifier 3-4k disc the other night. If you're a fan of the Terrifier franchise, you'll definitely enjoy this outing. The gore level is increased even more than Terrifier 2. Only complaint is about the 4k disc itself. For some reason the studio didn't add HDR or Dolby Vision to the American release, but for the European release they added Dolby Vision. Not sure why they did that. The 4k has a good amount of grain on it and really at the end of the day, you wouldn't need the 4k. The blu ray is going to look almost the exact same. Since they didn't add any HDR/DV, it's just a standard 4k upscale, but with added grain the picture isn't that crispy. Some of the red's from the Christmas theme do pop a smidge, but nothing like if it had DV applied to it. For sound, it just comes with a standard 5.1 lossless audio track.

I'm going to give the movie a 8/10. Gore level- 20/10! :D

Watched Nosferatu 2024. Excellent cinematography, atmosphere, music. Audio is very good, with even a bit of Atmos here and there, but nothing to get excited about. I can see why this one is a bit polarizing, but I liked it. I also get what Eggers was going for - more like a classic, old school horror film, and I don't think that is what audiences were expecting or hoping for. IMHO, Lily Rose looks so much like her dad Johnny Depp, that it was distracting, but her performance is solid lol.

Yesterday we watched Complete Unknown. It was a solid film, excellent performances, great audio with all the music. Great cinematography. I have even seen Dylan live about 20 years ago. While I liked it, I am not sure I understand Bob any more than I did when I went into it, except that I did not know he won a Nobel Prize for American Literature. Chalamet's performance should earn him a nomination, if not a win, for best actor for his performance. It more or less details his sudden, and maybe not entirely welcome, rise to fame. If you are fan of Bob Dylan, this one is likely worth going to see. Just be aware, not all the songs you may want to hear are in there, with 55 albums under his belt.

Somebody goes to the theaters a lot!... :D

I can't wait to see Nosferatu! I won't get to theaters to see it, but definitely looking forward to seeing it in my theater. I'm a big fan of Robert Eggers. I love all of his movies. I was a little late to the table, but I just recently watched The Lighthouse. I was able to get the 4k disc (it was an import). Very cool how he shot it and used black and white. Both actors gave strong performances. A solid 8/10 for me.

A buddy of mine just saw Complete Unknown and had similar comments after seeing it. I will wait for that movie to hit the streaming service. I'm not the biggest Bob Dylan fan, but I respect his career. He has some good songs.

Last night I finally watched the movie Green Room. Came out back in 2015. Small budget movie, but done really well. Has Sir Patrick Stewart playing a role I thought I would never see him play. It's a very violent movie. Realistic type of violence. This Director has done a couple Netflix movies (Hold the Dark and Rebel Ridge). I haven't seen either, but after seeing Green Room, I'm more intrigued to check them out. :D

Is Terrifier about a serial killer or is it about ghosts?

Two weeks off :D Grandson loves horror and wanted to see it so a whole bunch of the family went.

Unknown we figured is an Oscar contender, since I am also not a massive Dylan fan, but we and a good friend always try to go see at least 1-2 contenders over the holiday.

Blitzed through S2 of Squid Game, it was fun. If you change too much, it might turn audiences off, but if you don't innovate enough, the same can happen. It has a few fresh bits, but ultimately feels like the same thing.

Also watched Kraven. Fun, but junk. Nothing else needs to be said lol.

Watched Wicked in Dolby Cinema this weekend. Painful :D That was the longest 2:40 film I've seen. Visually impressive, sound was good, but the film itself is not exactly my cup of tea. The little lady enjoyed it. The guy next to me was snoring lol.
Watched it today myself. It was a let down for sure and very overrated. It is not the total piece of s#%t “La La Land” was to be sure but it isn’t a good sign when the best performance in the film comes from a computer generated goat.

Wicked is overlong, poorly lit, poorly paced and almost entirely miscast. Broadway musicals are difficult to adapt to the screen and the folks who did it best are long dead. The Broadway stage production of Wicked was impressive and the movie can’t touch it. If you want a great movie about the land of Oz, 1939’s “The Wizard of Oz” is still the best of the lot.
