Godzilla Minus One 2023 4K ATMOS BD.

Video- shot using the 6K Sony Venice IMAX digital camera, so it’s great. It also won Best Visual Effects at the Oscars this year.

Audio- Reference ATMOS quality. Period. They made good use of the overhead speakers and all speakers from beginning to end.

Story- excellent. By far I think this is the best Godzilla movie ever made in terms of writing and story. This movie is really a DRAMA piece, except for when Godzilla is on screen. :D

hahaha heck no! Leave The good, the bad and the ugly alone!!!

Any changes to the source is never good. Using AI to manipulate (IE-adding DNR or other) is actually ruining the video source. We are not seeing the movie as it should be. Upscaling to 4k and removing some film grain (assuming it was shot on film) is a-okay to do. Adding HDR is a-okay. Nobody wants to see waxy looking people. Nobody uses 6-8k cameras today and shoots digitally to get a waxy look. Cameron hasn't excepted that he shot on film and wishes all his old movies looked like digital. It's like George Lucas going in changing/adding all the stuff to his original movies because he didn't have the technology when it was originally made. Don't ruin the originals! :D :)
AGREE 100%. Like those old films

From the movie: You see, in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig.

My Crow 4K showed up last night and I watched it. Video is still very grainy in some spots, not surprising given the age and the fact that that is how it looked back then; there are a lot of dark scenes (I saw it opening night), but it is the best I think I've seen it. The audio is the same as the previous release, dts HD-MA, and sounds pretty good overall.

The Crow 4k (Physical Disc)

PQ-This is the best the movie has ever looked. They did a great job cleaning it up. You'd almost think this movie was shot within the last few years. There are a few scenes with red that really pop. Otherwise, we all know this movie is on the darker side. Closeup shots looked really good and we are able to see plenty of details.

SQ-Not that great. In my opinion. It's the same 5.1 from the blu ray. I really think they should've added an Atmos track. I wanted to have a more engulfing sounding experience and unfortunately this sound mix was not that. Explosions were weak sounding and there was very little background noise. This movie is almost all front loaded. I usually have normal movie listening levels around -20db, I had to turn it up another -5db to really hear more atmospheric noise and get a little bit more oomph to the explosions.

Overall- The Crow was a 90's staple movie. I was only 10 when it hit theaters in 1994, so I wasn't able to experience the theater version, but I have seen this movie on VHS, DVD, Blu Ray and now 4k. This 4k is hands down the best edition of the bunch. I'm rating The Crow a solid 8/10 movie. If you're a fan, order this movie now! :)

I saw it opening night, Friday the 13th. It has always been a favorite of mine.

Dune 2 came. I was interrupted with some work lol, but my initial impression after about ~30 min is, this is the best Atmos I've ever heard. Bass is pretty solid all around too. Can't wait to finish it.

Looking forward to watching my Dune 2 4k disc on Friday night! I'm expecting nothing less than full Demo worthy disc. Sound and picture are going to be 10/10. :)

I’ll have to rewatch Dune2 and pay attention to the ATMOS sound. 1st time I saw Dune2, I thought it had good SQ, but not as obvious as the ATMOS in “Godzilla Minus One” or “Moonfall”.

There is a lot of activity on this one, like every outside scene. However, it is mostly atmospheric and sense of space, until you get to the fight and worm scenes. I didn't watch the whole thing yet, I skipped through and watched about an hour of it. I am STILL WORKING since Friday morning lol (big weekend server application upgrade) but we will watch the whole thing tonight.

On the 205, it hung on chapter 15, which is likely a layer change. I skipped to the next chapter and rewound and it worked fine.

Watched Dune 2 4k physical disc on Friday. Demo worthy disc. I already put my Dune 2 review up here when it came out, so no need to rehash anything. The movie is 10/10. PQ/SQ on the 4k disc is all top notch. Do yourself a favor and just buy the disc or purchase it on K-scape. :)

The Dune2 movie plot feels rushed to me especially toward the end of the movie, which understandably couldn’t be helped due to time constraints.

I would put “Edge of Tomorrow” as my overall number 1 movie.

I would rate Dune1-2 very high and above all Star Wars and Star Trek and most Sci-Fi.

Not having read any of the books, I can't really comment on things being rushed. I'm guessing if Denis V. did directors cuts of his movies, we would get Lord of the Rings 3.5+ hour extended editions. hahaha. :D

Edge of Tomorrow is an excellent sci-fi movie. I can't wait to see how Denis V. completes the Dune trilogy. I know there are many more books in the series, but as of right now I think this is going to be the only trilogy we get from them. I could see maybe one-off movies down the line or more mini-series like what we're going to get on HBO in a few months with Dune Prophecy.

Furiosa: Mad Max Saga

PQ
- Standard theater picture quality. They're running 2k projectors so, it's the best 2k will look. Closeups had pretty good detail and the desert landscape looked good. Cinematography was very good. This movie should look better on a 4k projector. A negative with this movie was the CGI. Like TV CGI bad. You'd think with a budget of $170 million they would've had top tier CGI, but it was not. I don't want to give any specific scenes away, but you will be able to easily spot the bad CGI on the screen.

SQ-Was actually disappointed in the sound quality. It did not match Fury Road at all. It was all over the place with highs and lows. During a scene with Hemsworth, he was talking to everyone, and it sounded like he was talking from a distance even though he was front and center on the screen. Then other big shots with explosions the bass was very weak and front stage was mid at best. Then there would be massive bass and sound in scenes that didn't have heavy action going on at all. Overall, the sound mixing on this movie is 5/10 for me. Nothing compared to Fury Road's demo worthy sound on the 4k.

I'm going to give this movie an 8/10. It's definitely not Fury Road quality, which is 10/10, but it does bring you back into the Mad Max world. There are some very cool action-packed scenes. I can only imagine how long it took them to film some of the chase scenes. The camera work during these chase scenes is top notch. The bad CGI and all over the place sound mix brought the score down for me. Also, I personally think the movie could have easily been 20-25 mins shorter. It was a bit long on the run time. If you are a casual fan of the Mad Max movies, I think waiting to see it on 4k disc or K-scape is absolutely fine. If you are a HUGE Mad Max fan, then see it in theaters. :D

Civil War 2024 4K ATMOS streaming.

PQ. Looks great in my HT system. Shot using 8K digital camera.

SQ. Reference quality ATMOS during flyover scenes. Some great bass. If you want to check to see if your ATMOS speakers are working, check out these scenes:

1.17.06 - 1.17.14 Jets
1.20.48 - 1.22.48 Helicopters
1.24.26 - 1.25.0 Helicopters
1.30.15 - 1.31.0 Helicopters

Story/Writing. Overall I like the movie, except for one stupid scene that happens in a lot of movies, including Godzilla Minus One. If you want to save someone from getting hit by pushing them out of the way, then let the momentum/force take you down along with them (like in “Boy Kills World”). Don’t just push them down while you can stand up straight like an idiot to take the hit. Just stupid and I thought Alex Garland was smarter than that.
