$400 - Tower Speakers

Right now, $450 at CC will get you a pair of Boston VR2s, which are worth every penny of their $800 MSRP. That is an absolute steal (probably the best deal in audio at the moment.
They look like $500 there (unless I missed something, quite possible). A pair of VR3s costs $140 to ship here from OneCall using 3-day fedex. No tax, but still.

grrrrrrrr

so $539 with tax for VR2s, or refurbished for $500 inc shipping, or $640 for new VR3s with shipping.

oh well, it was fun window shopping.

What did you expect?, they are large cumbersome speakers, hence expensive to ship.;)

Im not sure what I expected. My 130lb sub cost less to ship at $50. I talked with Saturday Audio in Chicago today, and their MA Bronze B4 towers cost $50 to ship the pair, and the B2 pair for $25. Seems a bit more reasonable.

;)

The Boston Acoustics are in two boxes that are quite tall.

I've never seen them in the boxes.

But the speakers themselves are only 6.5 inches taller than the BR4s, yet are going to cost about 3 times as much in shipping. Surely due to only having fed ex as an option.

Are you used to paying that much for shipping?

You find my reasoning and or expectations faulty?

Sorry, I was hoping not to pay 39% of the speaker pair's price for shipping alone. Sorry if I seem ignorant to you!:confused::confused:

edit: ok Seth, thanks for the clarification. This thread is now going backwards, but thanks to sholling for the guess on that issue. I have no problems with that sort of thing... cheers guys.

And freaking heavy. I just had to pull one of mine out to give the satellite guy access to the back of my rack. Oh my aching back. :D

I suspect but can't prove that factory renewed are mainly open box returns or have minor cosmetic blemishes. That's just my guess. I really wanted another set of CR57's for use as bedroom rears but I've already committed a 1,500 or better to other hobbies this month.

Oh no, make no mistake, I am not trying to call you out or anything. Just looking for any justification for the price. I don't know how large the boxes are for the Athenas either. Do the Bostons come from different warehouse?

What is the best tower setup I can possibly get for under $400? Please don't suggest anything used as this will probably be a Christmas present from my parents to myself.

Thanks,

Corbin,

I ran into Saturday Audio while browsing Audiogon listings. They have some killer deals on MA and PSB and others. Used stuff, demo stuff, of which you are not interested. (I have refurbished amp, refurbed preamp, 4 "blemished" speakers that I traded in for the new ones at no cost, etc). Anyways, the MA stuff is A stock. Beech only most of the time. $400 for the B4 is nice, and is $50 shipping all the way to CA. Alpha tower is $300. B6 is $530. I doubt this stuff will last. As Joe Schmoe noted that the BA deal might be the best audio deal around, this MA stuff might give that a run for its money too.... good luck.

(ps, tx Seth).

Well 39% of $500 for shipping for a total of $640 is still a lot better than $1000 plus $20 for gas to go get them from your local dealer. ;)

And hey if you get factory renewed you save another $140. Wey wait, I'm the one that should be crying in his beer. I bought mine on sale 18 months ago for $850, marked down from $1,250. But then when I listen to them I get this huge :D on my face.

Yup life is good. :D

On a slightly different subject my BA CR57s will be here Thursday and now I just have to decide if they become family room/HT rears or replacement bedroom surrounds.
