JBL better than Paradigm? Now this thread is waaaaaay off track.

To be helpful, it looks as though we have a 4k budget.
It looks as though the OP wants floorstanders.
It looks as though the OP has budgeted 2k for the receiver.
It looks as though the OP has budgeted 2k for the speakers.

The budget is a little off.
I say, $800-$1000 for the receiver.
And, $3000-$3200 for the speakers.

This will get things looking a whole lot better.

Get out of BB & CC. Find dealers for good speakers by visiting their websites, using the dealer locator feature, and going out to audition.

Purchase a Marantz, Denon, or Yamaha receiver that will fit your needs for $800-$1000 after you have chosen your speakers.

Axiom makes a nice speaker. I have never auditioned them. But from all the customer reviews and forum posts. From what I understand they are a little forward (Bright) sounding.

The problem is you have no idea what sound characteristics you like. Without auditioning you'll never know.

IMO the JBL L880 are better than Paradigm Monitor towers. Maybe PSB Image T45 towers if he can find a deal.
I have heard both of those you listed the digm and the jbl. I can honestly say the jbl didn't hold a candle to the digm's....On the other hand the psb's sound great for the price it is hard to beat them.....:D

Hey! I found everyone! There's a lot of threads being ignored elsewhere, I believe they're feeling a little sad right now, something about not being able to compete with the thread of 4 towers in a room of constant motion, or is it mind changing? (or trolling I guess?)

Anyway, if you're upping your budget to $3000, I would suggest the M80's then, they should play plenty loud for you. If you were to go with those, I would suggest ordering 1 pair first so you can listen to them in home. If you don't like them you can send them back no questions asked. If you order all 5 at once you will get an additional discount though, but if you were to not like them that's a lot of return shipping potentially.

Pick the speakers first, once you've settled on those, then work on the receiver.

Receiver before speaker and you'll never be sicker...hm, doesn't quite work...

Why did you order a receiver first:confused:? Blow your load on the speakers, use the leftovers of your budget on a capable reciever to power them with.

This has been repeated over an over. I have a feeling he will end-up with the Onkyo/JBL system he has always dreamed of.

No one has mentioned the JBL's in several posts for 2 reasons:
1 They haven't listened to them, therefore will not comment on them
2 They have heard JBL's, and prefer other manufacturers for about the same price

Few have heard the Cambridge speakers, they are new in the last year. I had an older pair of Cambridge Towers, and they were good speakers for the money. However the new speakers have changed from what I had, new materials, etc, so it's hard to say if the value is still there. Based on their history I would assume they are decent speakers, and again are easily returned if you do not like them. At some point, you will have to audition/listen to speakers, whether you do it at stores or people's houses, or order them and listen to them in your home.

We can only offer opinions, which all will be different, and essentially will be meaningless to you until you listen to some and find out what you like.

Of course, I'm sure all of our opinions will be the same for at least one thing here...in regards to where this thread is going...
