I expect that, eventually, LCD TVs will be so cheap that they will be impulse purchases at the cash registers of drug stores. Think about all those calculators that use LCD displays, and think about how electronics pretty much always get much cheaper over time (especially if they do not require massive amounts of materials, which you can tell by weighing them). Sure, calculators are much, much less sophisticated than TVs, but the displays are essentially the same technology. Also, I remember when any CD player that cost less than $1000 was considered cheap. Now, you can get one for less than $50. Applying that kind of drop to LCD TVs, and we will have something cheap enough that they will be impulse purchases at drug store checkouts. Sure, they aren't going to be that cheap for Christmas, but just give it a few years and we will see...
