Hello,
I'm running a mac mini > toslink cable > optical input of the 3803. The denon displays the type and sample rate of the input data. So, for example, when I'm playing regular cd audio (16/44.1) through itunes on the mac mini it displays PCM 44.1khz, when I play a DTS movie though apple DVD player the denon displays DTS 48khz 3/2/1, etc. I've recently downloaded some 24/96 audio files, and when I play them in aiff format through itunes the receiver displays 44.1khz pcm, NOT 96khz. This is really bothering me.
It is my understanding that on a mac, itunes will send "bit perfect" data out of the optical out port and that it supports playback of hi-res files such as these without any resampling. Under that assumption, I am concerned that the denon is not handling this input properly. According to the denon website (see link below), the 3803 has PCM-1791 24 bit 192 kHz high resolution DACs on the inputs. Yet the on screen display is not representing the incoming audio as 96khz.
Is the denon's display just wrong, and am I really listening to 24 bit 96khz audio, or is there something else going on?
[I tried to post the link to the specs on the denon site, but I am not allowed since I have less than 5 board posts. The specs can be found under support > product document support & archives > receivers > AVR 3803]
Thank you in advance for any help!
